Obituary For Winifred G. "Winnie" Shea
Madison-
Winifred G. Shea, age 98, of Madison passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 20, 2024 at St. Mary’s Hospital. She was born on April 15, 1925 in Pine Bluff, WI, the daughter of Florian and Clara (Domini) Endres. Winnie married her Mt. Horeb High School sweetheart, Earl Shea on September 1, 1945 at St. Mary’s Church in Pine Bluff, WI. Their early life together was spent farming in Pine Bluff, before moving to Madison in 1957.
Winnie had an exceptional work ethic, which she passed down to her family. She also had the keen ability to create true and lasting friendships. Winnie played a vital role in the raising of all of her grandchildren and was fondly known as “Grandma Shea” to many others. What was most important to her was her faith and her family.
Winnie was a member of St. James Catholic Church and the Catholic Society of Foresters, as well as SAIL of Madison. She was an avid Badger basketball and Milwaukee Brewer fan. Winnie also loved baking and will be remembered for her legendary chocolate chip cookies and brownies.
Winnie is survived by her five loving children: Sharon (Dave) Bormett, Dan (Marilyn), Peggy York, Patrick (Mary) and Mike (Sara). She is also survived by her 14 grandchildren: Kristi (Kelly) Shipley, Kate (Chad) DeNamur, Steve Bormett, Ty (Julie) Shea, Ryan (Angie) Shea, Ken (Kelly) Maly, Carl (Shannon) Maly, Brady Maly, Leah Shea, Maura Shea, Aileen Shea, Johannah Shea, Brenna Shea and Maya Shea; 13 great-grandchildren, Alek and Anna Shipley, Jack and Matthew DeNamur, Addison, Merritt and Sullivan Shea, Nolan and Simon Shea, Ethan and Olivia Maly and Emma and Lydia Maly.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Earl; her siblings, Florence Stuessy, Herbert Endres and Robert Endres; and son-in-law, Don York.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 25, 2024, at Good Shepherd Parish - St. James Catholic Church, 1128 St. James Court, with Msgr. Thomas Baxter officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass on Thursday at the church. Burial will follow at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the staff at 5 East cardiac care at St. Mary’s for their compassionate care during her stay. The family would also like to thank her special friend, Betty Bormett for her attention and help during Winnie’s final days.
Memorials may be made to St. James Catholic Church or SAIL of Madison.
