Obituary For William G. Lewis

Verona – William “Bill” Lewis, age 74, of Verona passed away on Monday, April 1, 2024, at UW Hospital after a hard-fought battle with lymphoma.

Bill was born on March 11, 1950, to Stan Lewis and Ginia Lewis in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Bill grew up in Brookfield where he graduated from Brookfield East High School in 1968. After high school he attended the University of Wisconsin – Madison where he fell in love with the Badgers and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in economics. While living in Madison, he met Pam, and they were married in 1976. They were married for 47 years, and together had three children, Shannon, Keesha, and Brian. Bill worked hard throughout his life to provide for his three children, often working multiple jobs at a time.

Bill was an avid Badgers Football fan, attending every football game at Camp Randall for over 53 years. He often recalled times he was the only fan in the upper deck, a commitment which earned him Fan of the Game recognition. Besides football, his other passion was his family. He coached baseball, soccer, and wrestling over the years for his three children, spending many weekends and evenings in high school gyms or on soccer fields. When he was not spending time with his children, he was a dedicated runner finishing 16 marathons.

Bill spent the last year of his life battling a rare form of lymphoma. He is survived by his wife Pam (Christian) Lewis; children, Shannon Lewis, Keesha Lewis, Brian (Caitie) Lewis, and his beloved rescue dog Zoey; grandchildren, Carly (5), Collin (3), and Olivia (10 mos.) Lewis; brother, Dave (Cheryl) Lewis.

He was preceded in death by his father Stan Lewis and mother Ginia Lewis.

A special thanks to the medical staff in the oncology, radiation, and palliative care units at UW Hospital for the exceptional care and comfort they provided to Bill and family in his final days.

A memorial service to honor and celebrate Bill’s life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at Ryan Funeral Home, 220 S. Enterprise Drive, Verona. A visitation will take place from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. with a service to follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made to the American Cancer Society. https://www.cancer.org/donate.html

Bill was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend and will be missed by many. His memory will live on through those who loved him.

Bill was a loved member of the Lewis family. I uploaded a picture of him at his son's wedding in 2017. Notice the golf tees in the flowers on his lapel. We will miss his quiet presence.

My heart breaks for your family. As a child, Bill was my favorite person to make laugh. He taught us card tricks. He played capture the flag with us. He took me to my first Badger football game. He let us ride along while we delivered newspapers with him - just so we could get donuts. As we grew older, he cracked beers with us. He showed compassion. He was the hardest working person I knew. I am a better person because of the time I got to spend with him. I am sending peace to the family through this impossible time. I loved Bill. I love you all. - Michelle (Larson) Morris

I am so sad to hear of Bills passing. I worked with Bill for years at CUNA Mutual. He was such a nice guy who made me laugh daily. He loved his family and told continual stories of them. I uploaded a picture taken after he got a hole in one, during a golf outing. He said it was his second time - he was so happy. My sympathies go out to his family.

Pam, Shannon, Keesha and Brian, We are so sorry for the loss of your husband and dad. We have many fond memories of living next to your family for all those years. The backyard get togethers and the progressive dinner parties were so fun. Bill will be missed by many, but the memories made with him will remain. Tom and Mary Kay Clauder

what our families say

Tiffany Foster went out of her way to fulfill all my requests, talked me through problems I was facing, and tried to make me feel as comfortable as possible when I was a wreck, totally crushed, and I thank her with all of my heart for that.

James S. | July 2020

The professional manner of the staff made a difficult time a little easier.

Lynda R. | July 2020

Services provided for both parents were perfect, on time, and no issues. Brenda is awesome and strong!

Michael M. | July 2020

Skyler was absolutely amazing. She was so caring and helpful through this whole process. She even went above and beyond to meet with us in DeForest and even to make a stop at our home to drop off or pick up anything needed. While it was a small gesture, it was so helpful and greatly appreciated.
