Obituary For William C. Paltz

MADISON – William "Bill" C. Paltz, age 93, passed away peacefully in his sleep on April 28, 2015. He was born on December 28, 1921 at St. Mary's hospital in Madison WI. He was not aware at the time, but his wife, Lorraine Burnson was born shortly before, in the same hospital, in a nearby room. Lorraine and Bill met again at East High School and were married three year later at St. Bernard's Church on December 4, 1943.

After graduating from Madison East High School in 1940, Bill served in the Air Force during World War II for 42 months as an Athletic Director. After the war, he was offered a contract with the New York Yankees Farm Club in 1946. Bill graciously declined due to a knee injury, and to start a family.

Bill and Lorraine were happily married for 62 years. Together they had four children, Carolyn, Rita, William "Steve", and David. He was a devoted father, and grandfather whose caring heart and smile were infectious. Bill's love for his family, children, and athletics were shown through his coaching of several children within the St. James/Vilas neighborhood in both baseball and football.

Bill is survived by three children, Rita (James) Drifke of Stoughton, William "Steve", and David (Frances) of Madison, his sister Kathleen Mader of Madison, his son-in-law William Olson of Milwaukee, several grandchildren and many great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by the love of his life and wife, Lorraine Paltz, his parents William and Mae Paltz, his daughter Carolyn Olson, brothers Carroll and Harold Paltz , sister-in-laws Jacqueline and Lillian Paltz, and grandson Anthony "Tony" Paltz.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at GOOD SHEPHERD CATHOLIC PARISH AT ST. JAMES CHURCH, 1134 St. James Court, Madison on Saturday, May 2 at 11:00 AM, with burial in Resurrection Cemetery. Friends may call after 10:00 AM at the Church on Saturday, until the time of service.

A special thank you from the family to the staff at Chamomile Assisted Living and Heartland Hospice for the care that Bill was shown. To view and sign this guestbook, please visit: www.ryanfuneralservice.com

what our families say

Tiffany Foster went out of her way to fulfill all my requests, talked me through problems I was facing, and tried to make me feel as comfortable as possible when I was a wreck, totally crushed, and I thank her with all of my heart for that.

Skyler was absolutely amazing. She was so caring and helpful through this whole process. She even went above and beyond to meet with us in DeForest and even to make a stop at our home to drop off or pick up anything needed. While it was a small gesture, it was so helpful and greatly appreciated.
