Obituary For Virginia "Ginny" Ann Grueneberg
Virginia Ann (Ginny) Grueneberg, almost 89, peacefully passed away at home on Monday, March 31, 2025. She was a three-time cancer survivor.
Ginny was born on April 15, 1936, in Madison, WI to Norman and Mabel (Hurlbut) Sielehr. She married the love of her life and high school (Central High) sweetheart Fred Grueneberg on October 26, 1953, and they were married 71 years. When Fred retired, they moved to Lac du Flambeau, WI and lived there for 30 years. They moved to Waunakee three years ago.
Throughout Ginny's life, her family was her priority, and she loved spending time with them. They have many fond memories, especially holiday gatherings, cookie baking/decorating, camping, pontoon boating, and playing cards with her sisters.
Ginny was a faithful member of Cross Lutheran Church, Westport, WI. Her faith was the source of her positive attitude. Whatever the situation, Ginny found the silver lining in every cloud.
Ginny worked alongside Fred as a bookkeeper at his service station for many years. In addition, she worked as a nurse's aide at Central Wisconsin Center, seasonal work for the IRS, and part-time at Felly's Flowers.
Ginny and Fred enjoyed traveling. Highlights include Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Washington, Montana, Colorado and more. Her hobbies were sewing, knitting, quilting, and she loved her flower gardens.
Ginny is survived by husband Fred; brother James (Nellie) Sielehr of Waunakee; sons Fred (Lori) Grueneberg of Fall River, Ken (Lisa) Grueneberg of Monona; daughter Vicky (Richard) Bernards of Waunakee; grandchildren Jeremy (Carmen) Grueneberg, Carina (Josh) Price, Kia (Brad) Dietz, Kelly (Jestin) Grueneberg, and Brian (Kim) Bernards; and great-grandchildren Ayden, Alyanna “Aly”, Jaelynn, Kaleb, Alek, Tenleigh, Braeden and Sawyer; great-great grandchild Jagger; and many nieces and nephews.
Ginny was welcomed into heaven by her Savior, Jesus, along with her parents, Norman and Mabel; brother Bill; and sisters Mary, Becky, Susan and Dorothy; and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 7, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Cross Lutheran Church, 5062 Texas Longhorn Drive, Westport, WI. Pastor Joel Brandt will officiate. Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 11 a.m.
Ginny had a full, wonderful life, and she felt very blessed by all she had. Her family is especially grateful for Agrace Hospice, Fresenius Kidney Care, and UW Health for their compassionate care while helping her life’s journey end peacefully. Special thanks to Ryan Funeral Homes for their kindness and support. In lieu of flowers, gifts can be made to Agrace Hospice and Cross Lutheran Church.
