Obituary For Thomas J Rodenkirch

Madison - Thomas John "Tom" Rodenkirch, age 85, died on Sunday, November 8, 2015 following an extended illness. He was born on June 4, 1930 in Milwaukee, the son of John and Zayda (Strassburg) Rodenkirch. He graduated from Watertown High School and attended the University of Wisconsin - Madison. He served with the United States Navy in Quam during the Korean War. He was a member of The Elks Club. He loved boating, hunting and casino gaming. He loved to ice skate and belonged to The Madison Skating Club. He worked for L.G. Balfour. He married Betty Thronson on July 27, 1956 in Madison.

In addition to his wife Betty, he is survived by three children, Randine (Jack) Brown of Berlin, MD, Tom Rodenkirch of Madison and Steve (Margaret) Rodenkirch of Wisconsin Dells; four grandchildren, Dr. Megan Dowling of Milwaukee, Kaytie (Ari) Brownstein of Philadelphia, PA, and Ryan and Nicole Rodenkirch, both of Madison; two step-grandchildren Mitchell and Lucas Hobbins; two great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law Suzanne Peterson of Coltsneck, NJ; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Robert and a sister Leila Coughlan.

A Memorial Service will be held at RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 2418 N. Sherman Ave., Madison on Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at 11:00 a.m., with Father Gary Wankerl officiating. A visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.

The family wishes to thank the staff members at Agrace HospiceCare and the Betty Harbor Memory Care Unit at the Lighthouse of Sun Prairie.
