Obituary For Thomas Edward Everson

Madison

Thomas (Tom) Edward Everson, age 75, of Madison passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, March 15, 2017. He was born on May 3, 1941, the son of James and Rose (McKee) Everson. He was a life-long resident of Madison.

He was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at the age of 2 years old, but never let it deter him from living the way he wanted to - riding a bike, driving a car, working until the age of 55 and living independently his entire life.

Tom attended Washington Orthopedic School until 3rd grade. Tom’s mother did not want him to be labeled as disabled because she felt it would limit his potential. She worked with the Edgewood Campus Sisters to enroll him in Edgewood Campus Grade School as a regular student. He then attended Edgewood High School and graduated in 1960.

Throughout his life he worked at his parent’s grocery store, Everson’s Grocery. He also worked for Madison Newspapers and retired from Ohio Medical after 20 years.

Tom is survived by his brother, Jan (Mary Hofmeister) Everson; and his nieces, Beth (Mac) Chorlton of Madison and Kate (David) Jenks of Plymouth, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents.

He had a great love of cars, both driving and collecting them, and was an avid Packers and Badgers fan. You could often find him watching his favorite western movies. He adored his great nieces and nephews, Ella and Drew Chorlton, and Mary and Oliver Jenks.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, March 24, 2017 at ST. PATRICK’S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 404 E. Main Street, Madison.

The family would like to sincerely thank Pat Stark, Richard Enger and John Durst for being supportive and loving friends.

Memorials may be made to the Apostolate to the Handicapped, Edgewood High School or United Cerebral Palsy. To view and sign this guestbook, please visit: www.ryanfuneralservice.com.

what our families say

Tiffany Foster went out of her way to fulfill all my requests, talked me through problems I was facing, and tried to make me feel as comfortable as possible when I was a wreck, totally crushed, and I thank her with all of my heart for that.

Skyler was absolutely amazing. She was so caring and helpful through this whole process. She even went above and beyond to meet with us in DeForest and even to make a stop at our home to drop off or pick up anything needed. While it was a small gesture, it was so helpful and greatly appreciated.
