Obituary For Susan M. Streich-Boldt

Waunakee – Susan Streich Boldt, 78, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and friends on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin.

Susan was born on August 15, 1946, in Chicago, Illinois, daughter of the late Joseph and Ann (Lewensky) Streich. She graduated from St. Scholastica High School in Chicago. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education from Loyola University, Chicago, and an MS degree in Leisure and Environmental Resource Administration from George Williams College of Aurora University.

Susan enjoyed membership in numerous organizations, including the Midwestern Council of Sports Car Clubs, where she was both a corner worker and competition driver, Slow Food Madison, and The Original Wisconsin Sesquicentennial Accordion Marching Band. She was an avid gardener, enjoyed listening to classical music, and collected many books and interesting and unusual household items.

Susan truly cared about the environment and gained much enjoyment from her work. In a long career in both federal and State of Wisconsin positions Susan served as lead planner for the Ice Age National Scenic Trail, directed several camps for Youth Conservation Corps and designed and coordinated the Bi-National Program to Protect and Restore Lake Superior. For the State of Wisconsin her work included reviewing federal disaster grants to ensure the projects were in compliance with state and federal environmental standards.

Susan is survived by her husband of 45 years, Kenneth; brother-in-law, Bill Kurth; nieces, Melanie and Jennifer; nephew, Eric; grandnieces, Kylie, Lauren, Faith, and Savannah; grandnephews, Jake and Liam; and great-grandniece and -nephew, Jaxson and Maggie.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Ann; her father, Joe; and her sister, Jo Ann.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at Ryan Funeral Home, 2418 N. Sherman Avenue, Madison. A visitation will be held from Noon until the time of service on Saturday at the funeral home.

We knew Susan through a mutual friend, Jan G. Susan loved thrifting as much as we do. When she arrived in the great beyond, we are sure she looked up the St. Vinny's store. Thank you, Susan, for your friendship. God bless.

Our dear sister-in-law Sooz was a remarkable person. She was kind - kind to everyone. We will miss her quiet nature. She was friendly. She made friends everywhere. She made friends at the Bookstore in the Rink and at the Gracious Bakery here in New Orleans. She was an inspiration to us as a reader and a collector of books, and as a custodian of the planet. We will miss her "can do" attitude - Don't have a turkey roasting pan? Turn the stock pot lid upside down and use that. Need a dinner for a gazillion people? Ken and I can do that. We will miss Sooz and everything about her. Our condolences to Ken - you and Sooz had a special relationship. We are sending all our love today and always. Amie and Dean Miller, Christa, Caitlin, Elijah, and Nat Tabb

After my retirement from the Wisconsin Army National Guard, I began working for Wisconsin Emergency Management where I met Susan. We both had one thing in common, both played accordions. Ken too played and the friendship began. Always a happy smile on her face any time of the day Susan will truly be missed. Ken, we send our deepest sympathy. Bob and Ann Klinger

I did not know Susan well, but I did know her from a mutual love of Gardening and Cooking in various organizations around town. She always had a smile on her face. My condolences to all her friends and Family. Pamilyn Hatfield

We knew Sooz and her husband Ken through our dear friends Amie and Dean Miller in New Orleans since 1975. Sooz and Ken would always come to visit and would always drive down! When I moved to Chicago they would also come and visit me and hear me play on many occasions . It was so wonderful keeping that connection and we are so very grateful for all our years knowing them both. Ken we send you our deepest condolences as you face a life without Sooz. Please know that we are thinking lots about you at this time. We send you all our love. Annie and Steve Cohen

what our families say

Tiffany Foster went out of her way to fulfill all my requests, talked me through problems I was facing, and tried to make me feel as comfortable as possible when I was a wreck, totally crushed, and I thank her with all of my heart for that.

Skyler was absolutely amazing. She was so caring and helpful through this whole process. She even went above and beyond to meet with us in DeForest and even to make a stop at our home to drop off or pick up anything needed. While it was a small gesture, it was so helpful and greatly appreciated.
