Obituary For Steven Donald Steinle

MADISON/WESTPORT - Steven Donald Steinle, 66, passed away peacefully in his home on April 15, 2023.

Steve was born in Madison, Wisconsin on September 28, 1956, the son of Joseph and Joan (Mentzer) Steinle. He grew up in Westport hunting, fishing and trapping the Six Mile and Lake Mendota. Steve was an avid sportsman; nothing made him happier than when he and his dog were breaking ice to get to the rock pile, stomping the Lodi marsh or pulling a walleye out of the ice. If you were playing pool, euchre, horse shoes, tug of war or softball, you wanted him on your team. He was a hard worker and spent every chance he had at “my place” in Grand Marsh. Most of all, he loved spending time with his grandkids, ideally surrounded by family and good food, with a Packer or Brewer game on and a Mt. Dew in hand.

Steve is survived by his devoted friend and daughter’s mother Margaret Baker, daughter and son-in-law Sara and Stephen Schils, son and daughter-in-law Chad and Amanda Steinle, grandchildren Bryn, Sterling and Stephen Van Schils, Hayden and Andrew Steinle, his brother Bill (Jane) Steinle, sisters Sue (Rich) Endres and Jean (TJ Kriens) Lockwood. He is further survived by best friend Mike Baker, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Tom and brother-in-law Rick Lockwood.

Steve will be remembered as a loving father, brother, uncle, grandpa, friend, and the ultimate aluminum can crusher. He will be missed tremendously.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the WILLOWS TAVERN, 5485 Willow Road, Waunakee on Sunday, May 7, 2023 from 3:00PM until 6:00PM.

Condolences

  • April 28, 2023

Steve was a rare bird. He was hilariously funny, love to dole out the big tease. He had an infectious laugh. I rode the school bus with him for as long as I can remember. He did not hold back on his observations. My condolences to the whole family and for the loss of Steve to many.

what our families say

Tiffany Foster went out of her way to fulfill all my requests, talked me through problems I was facing, and tried to make me feel as comfortable as possible when I was a wreck, totally crushed, and I thank her with all of my heart for that.

Skyler was absolutely amazing. She was so caring and helpful through this whole process. She even went above and beyond to meet with us in DeForest and even to make a stop at our home to drop off or pick up anything needed. While it was a small gesture, it was so helpful and greatly appreciated.
