Obituary For Richard Albert Coenen
Richard Albert Coenen, age 96, reunited with his wife Christine, on Friday, August 25, 2023. Richard was born in Milwaukee, WI to Albert and Seraphine Coenen. He attended Blessed Sacrament Grade School and graduated from Madison West High School in 1945. After school he enlisted with the US Marines. He was a reservist at the end of WWII and later was called to active duty in Korea. Richard married Christine Bailey on April 30, 1949, in Madison. Richard was a steamfitter at Pharo Heating, PHC, Affiliated Engineers, and finished his career at General Heating. He was very active in the Steamfitter’s Local Union 394. Richard was a longtime member and officer of the Knights of Columbus 531 Council. He enjoyed bowling, cards, euchre, golfing with family and friends, traveling with Christine across the US, and especially spending the Holidays with his children/grandchildren. He also enjoyed spending time with all the family at the Lake House up at Roche A Cri.
Richard is preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Christine; son, Timothy; sisters, Dorothy, Eleanor, and Irene; and brothers, Leonard and Thomas. He is survived by his sister, Rita Mathiot; sons, James (Barb Buechel), Michael, and Patrick; daughter, Barbara (Paul) Weum; eight grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. He is further survived by many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00AM on Thursday, September 7, 2023, at RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 2418 N. Sherman Avenue, Madison. A visitation will be held from 10:00AM until time of services on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial at Highland Memory Gardens with Full Military Honors.

I just learned of Uncle Richard's passing today. My thoughts and prayers are with all of his family. I have fond memories of Uncle Richard bbq'ing brats at the Coenen lake house. May God Bless. Karla Coenen Legeny

For the memories of the times at Necedah At Ike's Cabin. Playing euchre, Having a few cocktails , Having a great breakfast made by Dick, a lot of talk, while playing more cards and walks in the woods. It was great to have known Dick Coenen. Dan Rustick ( Walt Sauer"s son in law).
