Obituary For Richard Alan Strand

Madison - Richard Alan Strand passed away at his home unexpectedly on August 31, 2023, Rick was born on February 9th, 1955, in Madison at Methodist Hospital to Robert and Irene (Schuette) Strand. He attended Madison East High School and enlisted in the Army in 1972 for two years at the age of 17. Rick brought back some good memories of his time spent in the military. He was stationed in Frankfort, Germany along the Rhine River working as a combat engineer. Rick received a medal in Marksman M16, and first-class hand grenade.

Rick was a teamster, and a few of the companies he drove for were, The Radford Co, Oscar Mayer/Kraft, and for twenty-two years at Walgreens, where he retired in February 2020. He was a highly dedicated employee, who took pride in his work, and was recognized for it. He received an award honoring his 15 years of outstanding performance in driving. Also, working for CPC Logistics at the Walgreens in Windsor, upon his retirement, Rick was recognized as an outstanding, professional, and courteous individual.

Rick was a motor sports enthusiast. He was passionate about his cars, motorcycles, and boats. Throughout the years he owned, just to name a few, a 69 Camaro; a 62, 63, and 64, Impala; a Sea Ray Pachanga; an 81 Suzuki GS 1100; and his custom 91 Silverado truck. Some of his favorite pass times were going to car shows, modifying his vehicles, detailing his vehicles, bicycling, playing guitar, and listening to music. Also, in his earlier days, Rick was an accomplished trick water skier.

He was a great neighbor, a reliable friend, and a good brother who had your best interests at heart. Rick was a hard worker, always. A kid at heart. He certainly had the gift of gab and loved telling stories. He had a fun sense of humor, along with a tender heart.

Rick’s current job was delivering flowers for Rose Cottage. He enjoyed the experience of delivering flowers, and often struck up a fun, warm hearted conversation to those he delivered to. Rick sprinkled joy around, and he didn’t even know it. He will be missed.

Rick is survived by his siblings, Roger Strand, Geralyn Quandt, Tania (Scott) Schwartz and Vickie (Carl) Gavin; nephew Corry Strand, nieces Alisha and Danielle Gavin, and great nephew Ethan Gavin. Also, aunts Marilyn Schuette, and LaVon Strand. He is further survived by other family and friends.

Preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Irene Strand, brother-in-law Quincy Quandt, and nephew Bronson La Follette.

A celebration of life gathering will be held on Tuesday, October 3rd, 2023, from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm. The time of sharing of memories will take place at 2:45. Military honors will take place at the funeral home following the celebration of life.

I was a bit stunned when told of Rick's passing, like most I'm sure. 50 plus years of knowing him, couple of years in the Army in Germany serving along side of him. It's been awhile since last seeing Rick, always caring for his cars and trucks. His Camaro was his pride and joy, and then his truck. Always a character and having fun. The 2 years we spent together in the Army are years I'll always remember.

I am so sorry Tania to be out of town today. I loved Rick the moment I met him. He was a good person and I enjoyed him as an employee and friend. Please accept my deepest sympathy and love. Romni

I've known Rick for over 40 years, I'll never forget riding in his Camaro he built, or in his Pachanga out on the lake, or riding next to him on his Suzuki, he loved that bike... Rick was a good man, he served his country, a hard worker, cared about people, and had a way with words like no other... He was very smart, great sense of humor and extremely meticulous with attention to detail, something I always admired. I was shocked to hear of his passing and wish I could be at the service. You'll be missed by not only family, but all the people your presence and stories have touched over the years. They didn't call you "The Riddler" for nothing... I look forward to seeing you again my friend. M. Flaherty

what our families say

Tiffany Foster went out of her way to fulfill all my requests, talked me through problems I was facing, and tried to make me feel as comfortable as possible when I was a wreck, totally crushed, and I thank her with all of my heart for that.

James S. | July 2020

The professional manner of the staff made a difficult time a little easier.

Lynda R. | July 2020

Services provided for both parents were perfect, on time, and no issues. Brenda is awesome and strong!

Michael M. | July 2020

Skyler was absolutely amazing. She was so caring and helpful through this whole process. She even went above and beyond to meet with us in DeForest and even to make a stop at our home to drop off or pick up anything needed. While it was a small gesture, it was so helpful and greatly appreciated.
