Obituary For Richard Alan Strand
Madison - Richard Alan Strand passed away at his home unexpectedly on August 31, 2023, Rick was born on February 9th, 1955, in Madison at Methodist Hospital to Robert and Irene (Schuette) Strand. He attended Madison East High School and enlisted in the Army in 1972 for two years at the age of 17. Rick brought back some good memories of his time spent in the military. He was stationed in Frankfort, Germany along the Rhine River working as a combat engineer. Rick received a medal in Marksman M16, and first-class hand grenade.
Rick was a teamster, and a few of the companies he drove for were, The Radford Co, Oscar Mayer/Kraft, and for twenty-two years at Walgreens, where he retired in February 2020. He was a highly dedicated employee, who took pride in his work, and was recognized for it. He received an award honoring his 15 years of outstanding performance in driving. Also, working for CPC Logistics at the Walgreens in Windsor, upon his retirement, Rick was recognized as an outstanding, professional, and courteous individual.
Rick was a motor sports enthusiast. He was passionate about his cars, motorcycles, and boats. Throughout the years he owned, just to name a few, a 69 Camaro; a 62, 63, and 64, Impala; a Sea Ray Pachanga; an 81 Suzuki GS 1100; and his custom 91 Silverado truck. Some of his favorite pass times were going to car shows, modifying his vehicles, detailing his vehicles, bicycling, playing guitar, and listening to music. Also, in his earlier days, Rick was an accomplished trick water skier.
He was a great neighbor, a reliable friend, and a good brother who had your best interests at heart. Rick was a hard worker, always. A kid at heart. He certainly had the gift of gab and loved telling stories. He had a fun sense of humor, along with a tender heart.
Rick’s current job was delivering flowers for Rose Cottage. He enjoyed the experience of delivering flowers, and often struck up a fun, warm hearted conversation to those he delivered to. Rick sprinkled joy around, and he didn’t even know it. He will be missed.
Rick is survived by his siblings, Roger Strand, Geralyn Quandt, Tania (Scott) Schwartz and Vickie (Carl) Gavin; nephew Corry Strand, nieces Alisha and Danielle Gavin, and great nephew Ethan Gavin. Also, aunts Marilyn Schuette, and LaVon Strand. He is further survived by other family and friends.
Preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Irene Strand, brother-in-law Quincy Quandt, and nephew Bronson La Follette.
