Obituary For Paul J. Cuccia

Madison - Paul J. Cuccia, age 76, passed away peacefully, with his wife, Mary at his side on Friday, August 28, 2015 at his home. He was a true Madisonian, born and raised in the Greenbush neighborhood, the son of Vito and Katherine (Brashi) Cuccia.

Paul was a proud member of the Madison Central High School class of 1957, which included "his girls:" Mariea Harrington, Sharon Olle, Karen Turnball, Alta Jewell and Patti Thompson.

In his younger days he enjoyed playing fast pitch and slow pitch softball with such teams as Josies, Trameri's and Cellar Bar. He also enjoyed playing cribbage, going to the casino, bowling and picking mushrooms.

He served his country in the Army from 1962 - 1964, including 13 months stationed in Germany.

Paul worked for the City of Madison Street Department for 38 years and 8 months and was a proud 50+ year member of Local 236.

Paul is survived by his wife of 47 years, Mary (Metzker); sister Lucy Gmeinder-Borcherding; nephews Jim (Pam) Gmeinder, John (Liz) Gmeinder, Godson Joe (Tanya) Gmeinder, Jim (Deb) Metzker and Kale Pustina; nieces Marcie (the original pretty blue eyes) (Dan) Billings and Paige (Cody) Fredrick; great-nephews and nieces, Alyson, Nicole and Ben Gmeinder, R.J. Billings, Lauren "Pretty blue eyes" Billings, Mya Rose Gmeinder and Godson Joey "Guiseppe" Gmeinder Jr.; brother-in-law Bob (Shirley) Metzker; and sister-in-law Ruth Metzker. He is also survived by many cousins and a very special Godchild Tari (Gary) Piediscalzzi.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law Bob Borcherding.

Many thanks to our family and friends who have supported us through Paul's final journey and who provided many happy memories all through Paul's life but especially towards the end.

Special thanks to Dr. Amy Stella, Karen Huseby-Moore, NP, Sandy, Cynthia, Amanda and Bobbie of the Carbone Cancer Center who always brought a smile to his face. Also a special thank you to Brian from Agrace HospiceCare for his genuine care and support that always brightened Paul's day.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 1, 2015 at Roselawn Memorial Park Chapel, 401 Femrite Drive, Monona with Rev. Alta Groves Jewell and Rev. Katie VanDerLinden officiating. A visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service on Tuesday at the chapel.
