Weyauwega – Nin Pen, age 81, passed away on October 24, 2023, at Weyauwega Health Care Center. She was born on May 05, 1942, in Kampot, Cambodia to parents Pen Hein and Soum Hing. Nin’s family fled her war-torn village in Battambang, Cambodia and arrived at a refugee camp at the Thailand and Cambodia border in July 1979, with her husband and two children. She lived in the refugee until late 1982. In mid 1983, her cousins in the United States reached her after which they sponsored her and all of her family to the United State. Nin lived in Chicago, IL for two years. Then in 1985, she moved to Madison, WI where she resided to this day with her family.

Nin enjoyed spending time with her family and gardening. She loved growing her own vegetables and tending to her garden at every opportunity. She enjoyed cooking and serving authentic Cambodian dishes to her family and friends from vegetables grown from her garden.

She is survived by her children: Sandra (Bryan) McKy; Sarom (Sothearith) Pom; Thai Pom; Soktheap (Amanda) Pom; Sokhuen Pom. Her cherished grandchildren: Sokvanny (Phon) Kheal, Sopounthnary Pom, Clark Vang, Eileen Pom, Angela Pom, Alana Pom, Caiden Pom, Anthony Pom and Brylon Pom. And her adorable great grandchildren: Nola Kheal and Phon Jr. Keal.

Nin’s passing was preceded by her husband Tem Pom.

Nin and her family would like to extend a very special thank you to their lifelong friends, Roger and Ann, for all their support they’ve given to our family and the Cambodian community.
