Miguel Corazao (San Roman), loving family man and friend, died on Thursday, June 13, 2024, in Madison, Wisconsin. His passing leaves a profound void in the hearts of those who had the privilege to know him. Born November 28, 1944, to Edgar Miguel Corazao (Rozas) and Justina San Roman (Mujica), Miguel's life was a testament to his compassion for all around him.
As a loving husband, father, friend, and mentor, he radiated wisdom and sincerity, touching the lives of countless individuals with his compassionate spirit and unwavering guidance. His family was his greatest source of joy, and his love for them knew no bounds.
Miguel was a lifelong student, skilled in academic life. He started in higher education at the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru, where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering and also taught as a lecturer. He furthered his education in the United States at what is now called Virginia Tech. Later in life, he did significant work and received his Master’s Degree at the prestigious Rice University of Houston, Texas. In all of his studies, he was recognized for his proficiency and leadership.
Professionally, Miguel excelled in civil, structural, petroleum, and software engineering alike, where his expertise was evident to those around him. He was frequently known as the most knowledgeable person in the room. He was one of the leading design engineers in the pioneering efforts of offshore petroleum platforms during the 1970s and 1980s. Later, he transitioned into software engineering where he was able to apply his blend of intelligence with his wide variety of experience. Throughout his career, Miguel served in multiple ways to the benefit of all who worked with him.
Beyond his professional achievements, Miguel was deeply committed to making a difference in his community. Throughout his life, he always looked for creative ways to make the world a better place. Particularly during his retirement, Miguel dedicated his efforts and resources to the people of his hometown, Huk'i, Calca, Peru, working to improve the lives of children and families through education and support. He trained and became certified in Montessori administration, and eventually founded Colegio Montessori de Huk'i for children of the community. Furthermore, he continued to work on plans to provide resources for general education and families with school-age children through Educa Mejor Peru, developing online and in-person presentations based on Montessori principles. His tireless acts of kindness and his heart of gold connected with so many and will leave a lasting imprint on this world for years to come.
Miguel's departure leaves behind a legacy of love, passion, and service. Though he may no longer walk among us, his spirit will continue to guide and inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him.
Miguel is survived by his beloved spouse of almost 26 years, Winifred Corazao; former spouse, Lynn Northrup Corazao; sons, Miguel R. Corazao with spouse, Kim, Anton Corazao, and Marc Corazao with spouse, Michelle; siblings, Herbert Corazao with spouse, Rosario “Charo”, Elizabeth Corazao, and Esther Corazao with spouse, Christian; nephews, Herbert Jr. and Sebastian; grandchildren, Tyler, Josh, and Ian; and many other loving family members and friends.
A Celebration of Life for family will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2024, 10:30 am at First United Methodist Church of Rockwall, Texas.
