Obituary For Michael Joseph McCabe

Michael Joseph “Doc” McCabe, age 73, passed away on November 24, 2020 in Madison, Wisconsin.

Mike was born December 17, 1946 in Madison, Wisconsin to William and Jessie (Strahl) McCabe.

Mike was affectionately known as “Doc” to the many military people he worked with. Doc started his military career in the US Army, serving 3 years as an Army medic before moving to the US Navy. Doc Served the next 20 years as a Naval Corpsman. After leaving the Navy, Mike worked for the state of Wisconsin as a Disability Determination Officer until his retirement. Mike enjoyed reading, watching movies and above all talking with family and friends.

Mike is survived by many close family and friends. Those particularly close to Mike were his daughter Jaime McCabe and her children Lucas and Olivia. As Mike’s health declined, Jaime took on more of the role of homemaker and caregiver. Mike shared a very special relationship with his grandchildren, taking on the primary male role model in both Lucas and Olivia’s lives. Lucas and Mike would spend hours talking, especially about Japan. Olivia was Mike’s television watching and driving companion. Over the years they spent many mornings cooking and having breakfast together which was Mike’s favorite meal. One of the many traditions that Jaime, Lucas, and Olivia shared with Mike was going to Ella’s Deli to celebrate family birthdays every year. Lucas and Olivia were Mike’s pride and joy and they will cherish the daily memories that they have had the honor to make over the years.

what our families say

Tiffany Foster went out of her way to fulfill all my requests, talked me through problems I was facing, and tried to make me feel as comfortable as possible when I was a wreck, totally crushed, and I thank her with all of my heart for that.

James S. | July 2020

The professional manner of the staff made a difficult time a little easier.

Lynda R. | July 2020

Services provided for both parents were perfect, on time, and no issues. Brenda is awesome and strong!

Michael M. | July 2020

Skyler was absolutely amazing. She was so caring and helpful through this whole process. She even went above and beyond to meet with us in DeForest and even to make a stop at our home to drop off or pick up anything needed. While it was a small gesture, it was so helpful and greatly appreciated.
