Obituary For Mary Jane Mair

Madison – Mary Jane Mair, age 95, passed away on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at Sylvan Crossing in Fitchburg. She was born in Madison on September 29, 1922, the daughter of Francis and Eva (Bitney) Schiffer. Mary Jane joined the United States Coast Guard during WWII. She was stationed in Chelsea Bay in Boston. While there, she met James Mair, who was also stationed in Chelsea Bay, and they were later married. Mary Jane and James moved back to Madison and Mary Jane worked for the Forest Products Labrotory as a Librarian for many years. Mary Jane liked quilting and knitting and she also enjoyed playing Euchre with friends at the VFW.

Mary Jane is survived by her children, Stuart (Brigid O’Keefe) Mair and Kathy (Craig) Steensrud; grandchildren, Elizabeth Mair, Debbie Mair, Emilie McBain, Sarah Mair and Jessica (Mike) Fenty; 9 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Mair; her parents, Francis and Eva Schiffer; her sons, James Mair Jr. and Robert Mair; two brothers and one sister.

A Visitation will be held from 10am to 12pm on Friday, December 22, 2017 at ROSELAWN MEMORIAL PARK in the chapel, 401 Femrite Dr, Monona.
