Obituary For Marvin George Richter

Marvin George Richter, age 78, died December 14, 2022. Born in Towner, North Dakota on January 21, 1944 to Nick and Lena Richter, Marv was the third of 12 children. After serving in the US Army for three years, he graduated from Minot State University, found his way to Madison, WI and became a math teacher at Madison East High School. While teaching at East, he met and married fellow teacher Sue (Meissen) Richter in 1971. Two kids, Marvin Michael and Anna Marie, completed the family. Marv was proud to be part of the East High School community and taught math at East for 30 years before he retired in 1999.

Marv loved his family and adored being an Opa to his grandsons Henry and Charlie. The feeling was mutual and the three of them had many adventures together.

Marv’s spirit now watches over his wife of 51 years Sue, his daughter Anna, his son-in-law Zach, and his grandsons Henry and Charlie. We are certain the spirit of his son Marvin Michael was the first to greet him when he passed.

Per Marv’s wishes, there will be no services. Instead of sending flowers, please make a donation to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, a Shriners Hospital for Children, or any charity you feel passionately about. Thank you to Marv’s Agrace care team who provided amazing and compassionate care. Hug the people who are important to you and love them with everything you’ve got.

I will miss seeing Marv , and talking to him over the fence In the backyard for many years. Loved seeing him out in the yard with his family, and the time he spent with his grandkids. Hugs Sue and Anna

Marvin was an outstanding teacher and coach at East High School. My brother-law Marvin was much fun to be around at many family gatherings even with cancer! A few years ago at a family picnic we had a long talk about the joy of having two grandson's. These two grandchildren make every day happy for me!! I have so many memories of all our days spent together. Now Marvin you are a special Angel in heaven and you can share these activities with your son who is already an Angel in heaven. My prayers and blessings will be with you and all the family!! Love, Aunt Pat Meissen

I am so sad for his loss. He lived across the street from us and before I had a snowblower he would always help us out when the city plowed us in. When my son play football at Madison Lafollette, he would always bring us the newspaper the next day about the article about my son. May God bless his family

I'm sad to hear of Mr. Richter's passing. I had him for 9th grade math and he was hilarious! He made Math almost enjoyable! And then I ran into him at bowling a few years back. It was so great to see him and didn't seem like he changed much. May he rest in peace and thoughts and prayers for the family. Laurie Mathews(Marty)

what our families say

Tiffany Foster went out of her way to fulfill all my requests, talked me through problems I was facing, and tried to make me feel as comfortable as possible when I was a wreck, totally crushed, and I thank her with all of my heart for that.

Skyler was absolutely amazing. She was so caring and helpful through this whole process. She even went above and beyond to meet with us in DeForest and even to make a stop at our home to drop off or pick up anything needed. While it was a small gesture, it was so helpful and greatly appreciated.
