Madison – Martha Rose Grimm-Bertrang, age 62, passed away unexpectedly on October 2, 2023, at her residence. She was born on August 11, 1961, to Tom and Mary Grimm growing up on the family farm between Highland and Muscoda, WI. She attended schools at both locations then furthered her education at Winona University in Minnesota. Martha loved animals and then worked on a horse farm in Chenequa, WI. They traveled around the country and showed horses. She then moved to Madison and began working at Graber’s and then the UW Vet Clinic where she was a triage receptionist. She worked there for 20 years and was very proud of her commitment to helping families and their ill pets. Martha pursued her Bachelor of Science degree from Concordia University.

Martha met her husband Richard Bertrang Jr. while working at Graber’s. They were married 34 years until his passing in June 2023. He was the love of her life and vice versa. They were truly soulmates. She worked tirelessly with the doctors, hospital staff, and insurance companies to ensure he received every scan trial, new medication that would treat his cancer and improve his health. The journey was long for both, but they never gave up and never ever complained.

Martha enjoyed her church group and reading, movies, ice cream, their friends, and going to “the FARM”. She also enjoyed hiking and any animal she could nurture and love. Martha had a fun sense of humor and loved to visit with others.

Martha is survived by her siblings Margie Billings, Patti (Bob) Ambrose, John (Patty Dewey) Grimm, Gerry (Lori Dailey) Grimm; in-laws James (Bobbi Krueger) Bertrang, Bonnie (Rich) Hartian, and Steve Bertrang; Aunt Phyllis; and other aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends. Martha was preceded in death by her husband Rich and her parents.

The family would like to thank all family, friends, and siblings for helping and loving Martha and Rich. A special thanks to her medical team and to Ryan Funeral Home especially Skyler and Ross. As well as her in-laws Jim, Steve, Bonnie, and friends Margie, Rosie and Bob. A special thanks to all of you. We most sincerely loved Rich and are so thankful for his love and support of our Martha.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, October 9, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Ryan Funeral Home, 2418 N. Sherman Ave, Madison. A visitation will be held on Monday at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
