Obituary For Marilyn Wolf
Madison - Marilyn (Miller) Wolf passed away Wednesday, December 23 due to complications of COVID-19. Marilyn was born in Lancaster, PA October 16, 1925.
Marilyn met the love of her life, Richard Wolf, on a blind date in 1948 and the two quickly became inseparable. Marilyn married Richard on August 15, 1952 in Lancaster, PA. To all who knew them, it was readily apparent they worshipped the ground each other walked on. Marilyn & Richard came to Madison in 1956 when Richard was recruited by the UW Madison Medical School to join the Physiology Department.
Throughout her life in Madison, Marilyn was extremely active at Luther Memorial, her church home since 1957, having served on numerous committees, fundraisers, Sunday school classes, and support organizations. She was also a proud volunteer at Oakwood Village and Attic Angels and a member of PEO Chapter H, Order of the Eastern Star, DAR, and Metropolitan Women’s Club. In her spare time, she also enjoyed a round of golf. While admitting she wasn’t the best player, she would laughingly describe her game saying, “It’s a good thing I don’t make my living this way!”
In retirement, Marilyn and Richard loved attending Madison Symphony Orchestra performances and traveling to visit friends in Florida, Arizona, and Door County. They also enjoyed international travel to Germany, Great Britain, and Scotland.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband Richard, parents Bertha and Roy Miller, sister Francis Funk, and brother, Kenneth Miller. She is survived by her sons Mark (Christine) of Akron, PA, Eric (Barbara) of Stoughton, and grandchildren Kevin Wolf and Erin (Douglas) Hoeft.
As the sun was setting on Marilyn’s life, advanced age took its toll. When she could no longer drive, her world was limited to where friends and family could take her and the view out her living room window. She lost the ability to hear the birds sing or the sound of a gentle rain. Walking was difficult and even getting to her screen porch to enjoy fresh air was almost impossible. As a child of the Great Depression, she lived with the phrase, “Oh well. You take what you get” and she never complained about her situation. You never know when life will change. Love each other. Kiss your kids. Hug your spouse.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Oakwood Foundation, Attic Angels or Luther Memorial Church. In light of the present situation regarding COVID-19, there will be a private funeral service.
Going home, going home, I am going home,
Quiet like some still day, I am going home.
It's not far just close by, through an open door,
Work all done, care laid by, never fear no more.
Mother's there expecting me, Father's waiting too,
Lots of faces gathered there, all the friends I knew.
