Obituaries

Marilyn M. (Detter) Lund was born February 9, 1937 in Chicago IL, the daughter of Paul and Marie (Oswald) Detter Sr. Marilyn Passed away peacefully at home with family on July 5th 2024. She was 87 years old.

Born in Chicago, the Detter family would soon return to Germany when Marilyn was just 2 years old. During the war Marilyn lived on her aunts farm in Adelshausen until she was able to join her mother and brother Richard at her grandfathers farm in Koppenbach. In 1950, at the age of 13 Marilyn and the rest of the Detter family returned to the United States and settled in Madison WI. Marilyn attended East High School in Madison and had to learn English. After graduating she started Nurses training at St Mary’s Hospital where she became a Registered Nurse. She worked in just about every department at St Mary’s hospital but the majority of her 40 year nursing career was spent in the Emergency Room on the overnight shift.

On September 10, 1960 Marilyn married her soul mate Richard Lund and she was blessed with 3 children and 57 years of marriage until Richard passed on February 21, 2018. Together Marilyn and Richard enjoyed camping with friends and were very avid Square Dancers.

Marilyn is survived by her Daughter Rosemarie Lund, Son Arthur (Katie) Lund, Sister in Law Betty Detter, 9 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild. She is also survived by her best friend Barb Prouty.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband Richard, Daughter Cynthia, Father Paul Detter Sr, Mother Marie (Oswald) Detter, Brothers Paul Detter Jr and Richard Detter

Marilyn was a member of Lord of Love Lutheran Church. Funeral Services for Marilyn will be held at Lord of Love Church, 105 Paradise Circle, DeForest WI 53532 on Friday July 19th. Visitation starting at 10:00am with a service at 11:00am and luncheon to follow the service. Interment of Cremains will take place at 1:15pm at Highland Memory Gardens, 3054 Co Rd BB, Madison, WI 53718
