Obituary For Lisa Hancock

Madison, WI - Lisa Hancock, 74, passed away on Sunday, January 7, 2024, at St Mary’s Hospital following a brief illness. Born on February 19, 1949, in Chicago, daughter of John Hancock and Lisa (DiGiulio) Hancock, Lisa had an early and lifelong love of art, reading and cats. She earned her bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Illinois and her Licensed Practical Nursing degree from Madison College. These qualifications, combined with her open minded spirit, led her to work and volunteer in numerous settings, including schools, healthcare facilities, and the Madison Public Library, to name a few. Her gentle spirit, bright sense of humor, and devotion to her family, community and faith will be indescribably missed. She is survived by daughter Laura and son-in-law Rasool Shojaei of Atlanta, brother Alexander DiGiulio Hancock and sister-in-law Mary Mercier of Madison, niece Nicole Barovic-Hancock of Madison, former spouse and close friend Donald Wichert of Madison, and many other family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents and numerous cats; we’re comforted in the knowledge she is having a glad reunion with all of them. Lisa was never one to make a fuss about herself and therefore requested no service to be held, which we will honor and are confident those who knew her are celebrating her in their personal ways. In lieu of flowers, we request that memorial donations be made to St Vincent de Paul, 2033 Fish Hatchery Road, Madison, WI 53713. A special thanks to St Mary’s staff and hospice team, your loving attention carried our family through this very difficult time.

I just learned of Lisa's passing yesterday when I visited our old apartment building on Ascot Lane. She was my neighbor in that building for 5 years and we shared many laughs together when passing in the lobby or doing laundry. Lisa was so kind and welcoming. I will deeply miss her. Sympathy and love to you, Laura, and all your loved ones.

It was a pleasure spending time with Lisa. I will miss her beautiful smile and happy disposition. I noticed her smile in our yoga class before I really got to know her. Thanks for letting me know about the Bernie and Chet books. Rest in peace my friend.

To Lisa's Family I am so sorry for your loss. I only knew Lisa for a couple of years but enjoyed her company very much. She and our mutual friend Mary did day trips to various places and enjoyed doing exercise classes together. I will miss this lovely woman very much. 💕

what our families say

Tiffany Foster went out of her way to fulfill all my requests, talked me through problems I was facing, and tried to make me feel as comfortable as possible when I was a wreck, totally crushed, and I thank her with all of my heart for that.

Skyler was absolutely amazing. She was so caring and helpful through this whole process. She even went above and beyond to meet with us in DeForest and even to make a stop at our home to drop off or pick up anything needed. While it was a small gesture, it was so helpful and greatly appreciated.
