Obituaries

DEFOREST / PORTAGE – Lawrence Raymond Sande, age 87, died peacefully at Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg, on Monday, Feb. 23, 2015. He was born on July 29, 1927, the son of Henry and Anna (Rowe) Sande. He was happily married to Mae Jean Kuhlmann for the past 60-plus years, and together they cared for a number of foster children over the years. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Larry and Jean lived for many years in DeForest before moving to Madison, and when Larry retired, moved to Portage. Larry loved his Portage home garage, going to Billy’s to socialize with friends who called him and Jean “Mom & Dad,” and enjoyed his Milwaukee’s Best Ice. He enjoyed playing euchre, was a faithful weekly Badger Five and Super Cash Lottery player and loved his scratch offs. In his earlier years he hunted deer and pheasant, loved to bowl and was a lifelong Brewers, Packers and Badgers fan.

Larry is survived by his wife, Mae Jean; a sister-in-law, Louise (late Edwin) Sande; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers and a sister-in-law, Harold and Geraldine, Edwin and Idore.

The family extends many thanks to everyone at AmericanWay in Portage for caring for him these last several years as well as everyone at Agrace HospiceCare for their care and compassion in his last days. A special thank you to his favorite nephew, Harold; and his wife, Shari; for their loving help and support, as well as Al and Connie Frain for being so much more than a friend.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 7, 2015, at CHRIST LUTHERAN CHURCH, 220 S. Main St., DeForest, with the Rev. Richard Collier officiating. Military honors will be accorded. Visitation will be at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service
