Obituary For Laura Jean Gerber

DeForest – Laura Jean Gerber, age 62, passed away suddenly on October 11, 2024, at UW East Madison Hospital.

Born on April 27, 1962, in Madison, Wisconsin, Laura was the daughter of Arthur and Mary (Fuller) Riemer. She married Ty Gerber on October 8, 1983, in Monroe, Wisconsin, and together they raised two children, Ryan and Emily. Devoted to her family, she immersed herself in the activities and lives of her children. Whether it was their club or youth activities, high school sports, or even their professional lives, she was always there, active, and engaged in what was important to her children. Laura found immense joy in her newest role as ‘Nana’ to her grandchildren, Lucas and Layla, cherishing every moment spent with them. It brought her great happiness to be with them, shower them with gifts and love, and be a part of their lives.

Laura had a passion for shopping and gift giving, attending craft shows, and decorating her home. Above all, her greatest delight came from the time spent with her family. She found immense joy attending craft shows with her daughter Emily and daughter in law Samantha, and looked forward to bringing her newest granddaughter, Layla, along with. She looked forward to times when everyone was together and relished family traditions, especially around the holidays. She loved traveling to Door County and looked forward to weekends at the family’s second home, affectionately known as “Nelly.” This sanctuary brought her peace and happiness, and it was her dream to retire there to embrace a serene lifestyle surrounded by loved ones.

Laura is survived by her beloved husband of 41 years, Ty; her children, Ryan (Samantha) and Emily (Vern); her grandchildren, Lucas and Layla; her grand-dogs, Jeter, Bernie, and Remi; and her dog, Sawyer. She was preceded in death by her parents and her cherished dog, Maxwell.

Laura's warmth, kindness, and unwavering love for her family will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Olaf Catholic Church, 615 Jefferson St, DeForest. A visitation will be held on Saturday at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.

Ty, Ryan and Emily, We are stunned to hear about Laura! She was always such a bright light to everyone around her! We would see each other at one of the many sports events from the time our kids were young. She was the kindest and amazing Mom and person! It doesn't seem possible that she is not here with all of you! I bet she loved being a Grandma!! I saw her a couple of years ago and she told me that they had moved to the Sturgeon Bay area. I thought at that time of what a loss for DeForest and her work community. I can't imagine the loss you are all feeling. Please remember how much she loved you and cherish the memories close to your hearts. Colleen Fogo

Laura is well-remembered by the family of Ken and M arcia Petersen, Kori Petersen, and Kimberly Petersen. Laura was Ken's "across the street" neighbor and spent many happy hours at the Petersen house. When Ken and Marcia's children came along, Laura was sometimes our babysitter. Deep sympathy is extended to Laura's immediate and extended family.

My deepest sympathies to Ty and family! I worked with Laura so many years ago and every time I saw her out and about shopping it was like we never lost touch! She was a beautiful and funny soul and will never forget her humor! I always looked for her at Kohls or JoAnns fabrics. Seems like we always ran into each other there! Your soul lives on in your family who was everything to her! Will miss your smile! Karen Shilts

I am so deeply sorry for your loss. I never had the pleasure of meeting Laura in person, but we worked together (albeit virtually) as coworkers in the UW Health Mammography department. She was always so kind, courteous, helpful, and ever so patient with me as I learned the ropes of the breast imaging file room in my first year. She was such a wonderful person, and the department has forever been made better by her presence. May your memories of her continue to bring you joy and light, and my thoughts are extended to her friends and family.

Laura was one of the very first people I met when I started working at UW Health 25 years ago. She was always the nicest, courteous and hardest worker. In recent years she trained me and we became each others person to reach out to with issues and problems. She had a voice I will never forget. I know how much she was looking forward enjoying a laid back, family filled retirement. Breaks my heart this wont happen for her. I will always remember her as a beautiful and hard working human. Prayers for her family strength in this tragic loss. Jenny Severson

what our families say

Tiffany Foster went out of her way to fulfill all my requests, talked me through problems I was facing, and tried to make me feel as comfortable as possible when I was a wreck, totally crushed, and I thank her with all of my heart for that.

James S. | July 2020

The professional manner of the staff made a difficult time a little easier.

Lynda R. | July 2020

Services provided for both parents were perfect, on time, and no issues. Brenda is awesome and strong!

Michael M. | July 2020

Skyler was absolutely amazing. She was so caring and helpful through this whole process. She even went above and beyond to meet with us in DeForest and even to make a stop at our home to drop off or pick up anything needed. While it was a small gesture, it was so helpful and greatly appreciated.
