Obituary For Larry N. Sliffe

Madison-

Larry N. Sliffe, age 88, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family and friends on June 24, 2024. Larry was born on July 8, 1935, in Madison, the son of Carl W. and Ruby (Sanders) Sliffe.

Larry’s younger years were spent playing in the Arboretum across the street from his house. He attended Dudgeon Grade School and was a proud graduate of West High School, where he was an all-conference football player and also played hockey.

One of Larry’s greatest joys in life was helping people. If there was a need and he was able, he would never refuse a request for help, no matter the task.

Larry proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. One of his favorite stories was of spending a winter in Korea, sleeping in a tent. Once a Marine, always a Marine. Oorah. Larry was also proud to see his grandson, Ryan’s graduation from the Marine Corps Recruit Depot. He also travelled to Washington DC to participate on a Badger Honor Flight with his fellow veterans

Larry started his career in the telecommunications business with Wisconsin Bell (a.k.a. Wisconsin Telephone Company). Throughout the years, as technological advancements fueled the industry, Larry moved forward with Pacific Telephone Company, Ameritech, and finally with A.T.&T. He was always intrigued by these advancements and amazed his family with his smart phone navigation.

Larry was a loyal Badgers and Packers fan. He loved people and was sorry he couldn’t get out and visit more often. Larry’s other passion was playing golf. He enjoyed taking his grandson, Jesse mini-golfing and always had golfing tips for all as he perfected his swing. Many vacations were spent traveling the country going to different golf courses. He also like to hunt and fish and would jump at any chance to take a trip with family and friends to hunt or fish. Not always successful, but a lot of fun times.

Larry is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Kathy Breunig Sliffe; daughters, Denise (Jon Uttech) Sliffe and Vicky Sliffe; grandchildren, Jesse Rogers, Ryan (Hannah) Fischer, Tyler Sliffe, Amanda Sliffe and Tonya Sanders; great-grandchildren, Dominik and Rosa Rogers; brothers-in-law, Gerry (Kathy), Ralph (Barb), Ken, Tom (Kathy), Randy, Phil (Theresa), Eric, Nick (Mary), Brian (Tracy), Dan (Kay) and David (Danielle); sisters-in-law, Louise (Dave) Frosch, Marcie (Bill Baures) and Kris (Steve) Haag; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Carl; mother, Ruby; step-mother, Ann; sons, Russell and David; brother-in-law, Dave Frosch; sister-in-law, Vicki Breunig; niece, Tracy Joseph and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Sylvester and Dorothy Breunig.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 6, 2024 at ST. PETER CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5001 N. Sherman Avenue, with Father Michael Tarigopula officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass on Saturday at the church. Full military honors will be held after Mass.

The family wants to thank the wonderful caregivers from Brightstar, especially Amy who has been with us since the beginning over 2 years ago. They would also like to thank the phenomenal staff from Agrace Hospice.

Larry was such a kind and gentle man. He spent many hours helping his friend, Ron Carlson during his illness. May he join him fishing and golfing in heaven. With deepest sympathy, Bonnie Carlson

what our families say

Tiffany Foster went out of her way to fulfill all my requests, talked me through problems I was facing, and tried to make me feel as comfortable as possible when I was a wreck, totally crushed, and I thank her with all of my heart for that.

The professional manner of the staff made a difficult time a little easier.

Lynda R. | July 2020

Services provided for both parents were perfect, on time, and no issues. Brenda is awesome and strong!

Skyler was absolutely amazing. She was so caring and helpful through this whole process. She even went above and beyond to meet with us in DeForest and even to make a stop at our home to drop off or pick up anything needed. While it was a small gesture, it was so helpful and greatly appreciated.
