Obituary For Larry L. Cox

Verona- Larry L. Cox, age 75, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, August 14, 2023, at Mercy Hospital in Janesville, WI. He was born on May 8, 1948, to Bennie and Norma Jean (Campbell) Cox in the township of Henrietta in Richland County, Wisconsin. Larry married Karen Ziegler on January 24, 1970, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Waunakee.

Larry attended Excelsior Country School in Reedsburg, Morehead Country School in Belleville, Oregon Schools, and Belleville High School. After Vietnam he owned and operated Colonial Bakery in Madison for forty-two years. During that time, Larry went on many fishing trips, hunting trips and snowmobiling trips. He was a stickler for completing jobs with perfection. Larry enjoyed the hunting property in Vermont Township with family. Because he was a fish-aholic, Cable Wisconsin was a special place for him. A provider that tirelessly worked to ensure that he left his family and friends cared for in his own way.

Larry is survived by his wife; daughters, Denise Cox-Holpin, Paula (Andy) Thompson, Jenny (Mark) Randall; son, Richard Cox; special son, Leon (Pam) Holpin; 11 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren and one on the way. Also survived by his siblings, David (Jane) Cox, Donna Starks, Barb Ace, Mary Lou (Marv) Maier and many other nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

He is preceded in death by his infant son, Paul Cox; his parents; parents-in-law Mary Ellen and Syl Acker and Vincent Ziegler.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M on Monday, August 21, 2023, at Saint Andrew Catholic Church, 301 N. Main Street, Verona, WI. A Celebration of Larry’s life will be held from 3:00 P.M to 7:00 P.M. on Sunday, August 20, 2023, at Dahmen's at Hawks Landing, 88 Hawks Landing Circle, Verona, WI and again from 10:00 A.M until the time of Mass at church. Inurnment and Military Honors will take place at St. Andrews Catholic Cemetery following Mass.

Per the family, casual dress is recommended for attending the Mass as there is not air-conditioning in the church.

I was in shorts and a T-shirt that morning I showed up at Larry's cabin at 7 in the morning, locked out of my own. But Larry liked to tell everyone I was in just my underwear. It was a good story, the way he told it. He really helped me out that day, laughing at me the whole time. He was such a good man, and I always like to see him, he'll truly be missed.

Our sincere condolences to Larry's family. Larry touched many lives and will be thought of often and never forgotten. May all your wonderful memories outweigh your sadness. This Bible verse recorded in John 5:28 has been of comfort to our family when experiencing a loss. It reads "all those in the memorial tombs will hear his (Jesus Christ) voice and come out ". The death of a loved a loved one is extremely painful but have faith in God Jehovah's promise of a resurrection. May the God of all comfort give strength and his love to each of you.

what our families say

Tiffany Foster went out of her way to fulfill all my requests, talked me through problems I was facing, and tried to make me feel as comfortable as possible when I was a wreck, totally crushed, and I thank her with all of my heart for that.

James S. | July 2020

The professional manner of the staff made a difficult time a little easier.

Lynda R. | July 2020

Services provided for both parents were perfect, on time, and no issues. Brenda is awesome and strong!

Michael M. | July 2020

Skyler was absolutely amazing. She was so caring and helpful through this whole process. She even went above and beyond to meet with us in DeForest and even to make a stop at our home to drop off or pick up anything needed. While it was a small gesture, it was so helpful and greatly appreciated.
