Middleton - Kris K. McGrew, age 66, passed away on January 20, 2018 at home with her family in Middleton, Wisconsin. She was born on March 22, 1951 in Davenport, Iowa to Stanley and Marian (Rasmussen) Heffernan. Kris grew up in Madison, Wisconsin where she graduated from James Madison Memorial High School. Continuing on, she earned both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree from University of Wisconsin. She spent her professional career with the University of Wisconsin – Extension. There she was recognized for excellence in innovation, including being awarded the UW System Academic Staff Excellence Award for Outstanding Service. During her retirement, after spending 35 years driving programs to serve students, she continued to support advancement in her community, including voter registration efforts, with her volunteer work with the Middleton Action Team and the Middleton Outreach team.

Kris married Ric McGrew on September 9, 1978 in the beautiful backyard garden at her parents’ home. After which they bought their first home on the east side of Madison. There, they started their family and Ric started his career with the Madison Fire Department. Several years later, they built their second home and moved to Middleton, Wisconsin. Kris enjoyed experimenting with new recipes, hosting friends and family, regularly visiting the family lakeside cabin in Lac Du Flambeau, Wisconsin, traveling and taking a break from Wisconsin winters with friends in New Smyrna Beach, Florida once she and Ric retired.

Kris is survived by and will be greatly missed by her husband of 39 years, Ric; their children, Carrie McGrew and Ryan McGrew; and her father, Stanley Heffernan. She is also survived by her brothers and their families, Larry and Ann Heffernan, Chuck and Wendy Heffernan and their sons Kyle, Scott, and Jake; as well as her niece Amy Seaton. She was preceded in death by her mother, Marian Heffernan.

Services will be held on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 with a visitation at 1pm and a memorial service beginning at 2pm with snacks to follow at Orchard Ridge United Church of Christ, 1501 Gilbert Road in Madison, Wisconsin.

A special thanks to Agrace Hospice Care, whose excellent team allowed Kris to finish her life at home, with her family.
