Sun Prairie – Kathleen “Kay” Elizabeth Ward, age 100, passed away on Thursday, September 19, 2024, at Talamore Senior Living in Sun Prairie. She was born in Madison, WI, on November 17, 1923, the daughter of Patrick and Maybelle (Lynch) Sweeney. Kay graduated from Central High School in Madison in 1941. She was united in marriage that same year on November 22, to Dwight Ward. Kay worked as a production worker for Oscar Mayer in Madison for almost 30 years until her retirement. Kay and Dwight were avid square dancers for over 50 years. It was a passion of theirs. They enjoyed attending national and state conventions and helped to start a couple of square-dancing clubs. The two of them liked to travel the country with their 5th wheel so they could square dance and ended up visiting 27 states during their travels. Kay and Dwight were snowbirds, moving to Texas for the winters to join their square-dancing friends.

Kay had a love for playing BINGO and for sewing. She passed along her skills, and her love of sewing to her grandchildren. Kay was a fun and loving grandmother. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She always had a drawer full of chocolate for her grandkids whenever they would visit.

Kay is survived by her grandchildren, Amy (Ron) Rogers, David (Carmen) Ward, Steven Ward, and Mark (Shannon) Ward; 8 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Diane Ward; and other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dwight Ward; son, Donald Ward; parents, Patrick and Maybelle Sweeney; sister, Virginia Weibel; and brother-in-law, Gerald Ward.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11am on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, at RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 6924 Lake Road, DeForest. A visitation will take place from 10am until the time of service.
