Obituary For June Stellberg
Madison, WI - June Stellberg passed away in Madison WI on October 22, 2023, at the age of 99, just months from her 100th birthday.
She was born March 19, 1924, in the farm home of her parents, John E. & Maud (Scott) Stothard near St. Francis, Kansas. June received her teaching degree from Fort Hays Kansas State College and taught in Kansas and Milwaukee Public Schools.
June met her future husband on a blind date during World War II, matched up because their first names were June and August. She married August J. Stellberg on May 4, 1946, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hays, Kansas. She loved her family, friends, gardening and entertaining in her home. June was active in all the communities where they lived: Milwaukee, La Crosse, Beloit, and Madison.
She served as a scout leader for her children, volunteered in many women’s organizations, delivered Meals on Wheels and was a regular reader in her church. A piano player since childhood, June also discovered her talents as a porcelain painter when she was in her 60’s. She and her husband were avid travelers, visiting all fifty states, Canada, Mexico and six continents.
June was preceded in death by August, her beloved husband of 67 years, son Dale, her parents, sister Leona Frodin, brother Gilbert Stothard, sister Hilda Terrell and grandson Benjamin Kwiatkowski. She leaves four children, A. John (Mary Logan) Stellberg, Boise ID; Beth (Cliff Whittemore) Stellberg, Madison WI; Paul (Lori Wagner) Stellberg, Greendale WI; and Gwen (Dr. James) Long, Madison WI. June had 12 grandchildren - Kerry, Zachary, Sarah, Abraham, Samuel, Blake, Shane, Amanda, Jessica, Gregory, Brian, and Steven – and six great grandchildren.
The family thanks the wonderful staff and residents
at All Saints Neighborhood in Madison for their care
and friendship during June’s seven years there. Agrace provided hospice support in the final months of her life.
A celebration of the life of June Stellberg will be held on Saturday, November 11 at 1:00-3:00 pm at All Saints Neighborhood, 511 Commerce Dr. in Madison WI. This follows a private service for family.
Rather than flowers, the family suggests a donation to
Meals on Wheels, an organization for which June and her husband were volunteers.
June’s final resting place will be in St. Adalbert
Cemetery, Milwaukee, next to her husband and son.
