Obituary For Joyce Mooney
Joyce Mooney, age 94, passed away on February 20, 2025, she was born to Eber and Agnes (Dolan) Hewitt, in Madison, WI. She went to St. Bernard’s grade school and graduated from Edgewood High School in 1948. Before and after High School, Joyce worked for the Telephone Company on the Capital Square for several years.
Joyce married Patrick “Pat” Mooney in 1950 at St. Bernard Church in Madison and they celebrated 73 years of marriage in the Fall of 2023. After taking ten years off to raise her family, Joyce went back to work at the Cooperative Pharmacy on Atwood Avenue, retiring the day the Coop officially closed its doors in February 1991 after 23 years of employment.
Joyce treasured the time she spent with her family and especially her seven card club lady friends for over 65 years. Testing out new desserts, playing cards, and getting caught up with the latest news with her friends was something she cherished whenever they got together. Joyce traveled to all 50 states and took trips to Mexico, Canada, and Europe with her husband, family, and friends. She loved having fun at their family cottage on the Rock River, their yearly vacations up north to Crivitz, Wisconsin, and their many winter trips to Florida after they retired while living at Westshire Village in Westport.
Joyce is survived by her sons, Dennis (Jeanne), Tom (Sue); daughter, Sandra Martinson; grandchildren, Bridget, Kevin, Kyle Mooney; Logan, Ryan (Ariel), Claire Mooney; Josh (Bry), Jake, Jesse (Lauren) Martinson; great grandchildren, Maddy, Hannah, Hunter, Parker and Olivia; great-great granddaughter Sawyer; daughter-in-law Lynne Mooney, several relatives, friends; and special card club ladies, Ruth Esser and Jan Hansen.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Daniel Mooney; in-laws Ambrose & Clara Mathison Mooney; brother, Dean Hewitt; sisters-in-law, Lorraine Beld, Rosemary Anderson, Delores Lacenski, Judy Hewitt; brothers-in-law, Smiley Beld, Rubin Anderson, Clarence Lacenski; grandson Michael Mooney; son-in-law Jeffrey Martinson; and great grandchild Peyton.
Special thanks to the staff and residents (especially her special friend Connie) at New Perspective Memory Care Facility in Sun Prairie for their friendship, special care and support this past year.
