MADISON – John P. Malec Jr., age 77, died peacefully after a lengthy struggle with heart and lung disease. He was born on September 11, 1940, to John and Louise Malec in Madison, WI. John married Judy (Meudt), the love of his life, on January 20, 1962. John was a hard-working individual who began his professional career by completing one year of medical school. He then made a thoughtful decision to join his Father-in-Law in a beer distribution service. Reflective of his hard-working nature and love of the outdoors, John relocated his family and served as a camp ground owner/logger in Montana. After approximately two years, John and his family returned to Wisconsin and John served as the General Manager of Janesville Sand & Gravel/Lycon from 1974 until his retirement in 2002. In his retirement, John traveled to Florida with his wife Judy, maintained grounds at Governor Nelson State park, assembled model airplanes and enjoyed reading/puzzling. John’s intelligence, strong will and committed approach served as an inspiration to those who knew him.

John is survived by his wife Judy; a daughter, Ann Malec (George Grays) of Madison; a daughter, Julie (David) O’Malley of Middleton; grandchildren Ryan and Hannah Malec, Elliott Malec Grays, Timothy and Ashley O’Malley and Ryan and Hannah’s mother, Anita Lyons; sister Jeanne Pelletter (Jerry Drew) of Verona; lifetime friend, Fritz Kruger. Preceding him in death were his parents and beloved son Timothy Malec. John requested a private family service.
