Obituary For Jeremy Burke Schraeder

Jeremy Burke Schraeder (July 18, 1978 – October 2, 2024) passed away in his sleep at his home in Verona, WI. Jeremy married the love of his life, his wife, Carolyn “Carrie”, in 2007. His happiest memory was seeing Carrie in her beautiful wedding dress for the first time. Together they nurtured and raised their beloved daughter, Chloe. Jeremy considered his roles as husband and father his greatest pride.

Jeremy graduated from the Dodgeville, WI High School in 1997 and received his BS degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2002, continuing his education to earn an Associate Degree from Madison College in Computer Systems Administration. Jeremy loved his job and colleagues in the Technology Support Department at Madison College, and his team received the prestigious Madison College Team Achievement Award.

As a child and a young man, Jeremy acquired numerous awards and distinctions in sports, scouts and academics, was adventurous in travel, and loved connecting with others. Jeremy had a hearty laugh and a playful spirit, and was known to all as a kind-hearted, fun-loving person who enjoyed a great game. So many memories were made with his friends and family during an energetic yard, board or online competition. Attending Badger, Packer, Brewer, and Bucks sporting events with his dad and his friends brought him much joy. Cheering at the Brewer Home Opener with his father, Tom was a time-honored and cherished tradition. His proudest moments were in creating a beautiful life with his wife Carrie, caring for their sweet pet dog, Daisy, taking family trips to Arizona, Texas, Disney World, and Harry Potter World, and spending time with his forever-loved daughter, Chloe, who was a sparkle of joy for him every day. Jeremy was a kind and generous person; seventy-five people will benefit from his organ and tissue donations.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn “Carrie” Schraeder; daughter, Chloe; parents, Thomas and Patricia “Trici” Schraeder; sister, Juliet (Dason) Whitsett; Carrie’s parents, Ronald (Sam) and Donna Fluhr; brother-in-law, Casey (Ashley) Fluhr; nephews, Kai Whitsett, Gannon and Grayson Fluhr; and his nieces, Fischer and Sequoia Whitsett.

Jeremy is preceded in death by his grandparents, Lawrence and Rita Schraeder and Robert and Myrtle Burke; uncles, David Meisenheimer, John Burke, Michael Burke and Dennis Metzger.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 12, 2024, at Ryan Funeral Home, Verona Chapel, 220 Enterprise Drive. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday at the Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials in Jeremy’s name to the American Heart Association.

To the family and friends, and all of those who cared about and will greatly miss Jeremy: Before I retired last year, I worked for an audio and video engineering company, and Madison College was one of my largest customers. I worked with Jeremy during a time when his department needed a significant upgrade to their classroom technology. Their outstanding instructors had specific needs to communicate their knowledge to students. Anytime a significant change is pursued, there is potential for anxiety, disagreement, and conflict. Jeremy showed great leadership during this time along with his colleagues and the department chair person, and was a calming voice in the many meetings and conversations that took place. He made sure we stayed on point and covered all of the topics and suggestions that were on the table. The final result was, by all accounts, success in achieving the stated goals. This positively affected thousands of students. Jeremy's involvement in this made a huge positive difference in many, many peoples lives. Jeremy and I and Jeremy's team worked very closely together for many months. There were several months in which we were communicating via email or text or phone, or meeting in person several times per week so I got to know Jeremy very well. I was struck by his strong leadership and caring demeanor. He was very patient and polite, yet very firm when he needed to be. Needless to say, he was also very, very smart. Audio and video were not within his comfort zone, but he listened, studied, asked questions and took notes and became very well-versed in audio and video technology. He dedication was very impressive. I've noticed throughout my life that there were people that I looked forward to meeting with and talking to, and there were others who were difficult. These folks would make the day a little more challenging. Jeremy was a man who I could spend time talking with about personal happenings or business issues – it didn't matter what the topic was – because with Jeremy I always felt better after I spent time with him. He made my day a little better by just being Jeremy. This doesn't come automatically. He had decided, throughout his life, to be this way. Simply put, he was a very kind, genuine and caring man, and I'll miss seeing him and talking with him very much. We need more people in this world like Jeremy. Bob Diskin

The following is offered on behalf of the Information Technology department at Madison College. Remembering Jeremy Schraeder Jeremy worked as senior project leader of the Information Technology (IT) team, supporting faculty and students engaged in department programs.  Jeremy was an alumnus of Madison College having graduated from the IT-Systems Administration associate degree program. Upon graduation, he worked for Madison College's Tech Services Help Desk, providing much needed support for faculty and staff throughout the college.  His technical knowledge and leadership abilities made him a valued member of the Help Desk team, and he quickly became a leader in the area.  Jeremy then made a transition to working in support of the IT department. As the IT department grew and evolved, Jeremy grew and evolved as well. The number of programs offered by the IT department expanded and along with this the number of faculty and students needing support. Jeremy shouldered the task of additional technical and organizational complexity of these changes with ease.  Growth for the IT department also took the form of expanded facilities. Jeremy played a major role in the two major relocations of the IT department, first to the Health Building and then to the newly remodeled facilities in the main Truax Campus, where the IT department is currently housed.  The new IT facilities have over 400 computer workstations, 12 computer labs, a dedicated data network, 2 state of the art data centers dedicated to the IT programs, as well as faculty offices and the student-run computer repair facility (WolfPack Techies). It is not an understatement to say that this new facility would not have been possible without Jeremy's technical expertise, attention to detail, and unflagging energy for the project. However, the most outstanding quality of Jeremy was not his amazing technical expertise or ability to organize a project, rather it was his dedication to students and his compassion for them and their struggles to succeed. The IT faculty he supported thought of him as a partner in student success. As we feel the painful loss of a friend and colleague, especially as it has happened so suddenly, we must recognize that the heartache we feel is a result of the joy of our deep friendship and connection we felt working with him every day.  In deepest sympathy, Ken McCullough - IT department chair

what our families say

Tiffany Foster went out of her way to fulfill all my requests, talked me through problems I was facing, and tried to make me feel as comfortable as possible when I was a wreck, totally crushed, and I thank her with all of my heart for that.

Skyler was absolutely amazing. She was so caring and helpful through this whole process. She even went above and beyond to meet with us in DeForest and even to make a stop at our home to drop off or pick up anything needed. While it was a small gesture, it was so helpful and greatly appreciated.
