Obituary For Jean "Jeanne" Baumann
Madison – Jean “Jeanne” Baumann, age 84, of Racine, WI, passed away on October 26, 2024. Jeanne was born in Waukesha, WI to Albert and Lucy Blank on November 24, 1939. She attended Elroy High School and graduated in 1957. Jeanne joined the Air Force in 1958, where she met the love of her life, Gil Baumann, in Denver, CO. Both were active in the Air Force and married in Dubuque, IA in 1960 before moving to Racine, WI, to raise their family. Jeanne was a very engaged mother to her three children, serving as a scout leader for the Brownies, Girl Scouts, and Cub Scouts. She also helped at school as a room mother, and taught Sunday School and Bible School at St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church. Jeanne was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Racine, WI. In her free time, she loved decorating cakes and made most of the wedding cakes for her family and friends. She also loved the search for antiques and unique items at yard sales. She was an avid button collector that included Civil War-era and other unique and rare buttons.
Jeanne is preceded in death by her loving husband, Gil; her parents, Albert and Lucy Blank; two sisters, Ruth Young and Joan Field; two brothers-in-law, Max Algase and Pahl Young; and two sisters-in-law, Violet Ernst and Lillian Thomsen.
Jeanne is survived by sons Matthew Baumann (Pamela) of Kenosha, WI; Mark Baumann (Alta Jane) of Watauga, TN; and daughter Lorrie Olson (Todd) of Verona, WI. She also leaves behind two grandchildren, Andrew Olson (Elizabeth) of Minneapolis, MN, and Carly Wallner (Marty) of Menomonee Falls, WI; four great-grandchildren, Endre Olson, Lucy Wallner, Leo Wallner, and Aida Olson; sisters Barbara Algase and Donna Amberg (Don); and brothers Fred Blank (Sally), Arnold Blank (Linda), and Bruce Blank. Jeanne leaves behind many dear friends and family, including special friends Edie Weitkum and Darryl Napiontek.
Memorial services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 4340 6 Mile Road, Racine, WI. A visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service. There will be a luncheon at the church directly after the service.
A private family burial with military honors will be held at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove, Wi.
The family would also like to send a special thank you to the staff at Brookdale Assisted Living and those at Meriter Hospital for their kindness and compassion.
