Obituary For James Peters
In Loving Memory of James Peters
(11/15/1953-4/11/2024)
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved James Peters. A cherished husband, devoted father, and a true friend to many, James touched the lives of everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. He was a beacon of kindness, resilience, and unwavering love.
Born on 11/15/1953, James grew up in Frankfort, Germany and embarked on a remarkable journey through life. He served his country as members of United State of Marine Corps. James forged a career around bicycles after cycling cross-country from California to the East Coast around 1980, he took a job as a documents messenger in Washington, D.C. Not only did that line of work allow him to maintain his Marine conditioning and physique; it also introduced him to a number of people – both fellow messengers and the messenger service’s customers – who would become lifelong friends and riding partners.
Later, he managed one of the D.C. area’s leading bicycle retailers, Metropolis Bike & Scooter. That years-long association brought him to the attention of Trek Bicycles, headquartered in Wisconsin, which hired him as a component buyer based in Taiwan. James enjoyed many rewarding years at Trek, where he excelled in negotiating supply agreements with the leading bicycle component manufacturers of East Asia. His Trek posting also introduced him to the woman who would become his wife, Grace Huang. She and James enjoyed a marriage that lasted until James’s death and produced their treasured son, J, who is a graduating senior at UWM.
Whether it was riding his bike across the United States or Europe, James approached life with grace and determination.
His true vocation was being a devoted husband and father. His love for J knew no bounds, and he reveled in their laughter and milestones. His legacy lives on through the countless memories created during family gatherings, holidays, and quiet moments spent together.
In the community, James was known for his dedication to work. His impact extended beyond Madison, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of many.
James enjoyed riding bikes, and he loved Belgian beer and wine.
James will be remembered by Grace and J. He is forever etched in our hearts, and we find solace in knowing that he is at peace.
