Obituary For James David "Jim" Nolley

James David Nolley “Jim”, age 77, of DeForest, peacefully went Home to Jesus on February 12th, 2025, surrounded by his loving family at Agrace Hospice in Fitchburg. Jim was born in Marshfield, WI on May 28th, 1947, to James Nolley & Marion Kuhl. Jim graduated from Sauk Prairie High School in 1965 and shortly after, joined the Air National Guard. He spent his career in Supply retiring as a Senior Master Sergeant. He married Cheryl Sabby in 1968 in Baraboo and they made their home in DeForest. Jim was a true patriot and a sports-lover. He enjoyed both singles and couples bowling and playing and umping softball. He cheered on his favorite Wisconsin teams: the Packers, Badgers and Brewers. He enjoyed many years on his motorcycles and camping with family and neighborhood friends. Upon retiring at the end of 1999, he became a full-time daycare for his grandchildren, and they benefited from their years spent under “Papa’s” care. He was an awesome storyteller and always enjoyed a brandy old-fashioned and a good debate.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Cheryl Nolley, daughter Erin (Chris) Paitrick, grandchildren Cody Nolley and Alyssa Kilvinger and great-grandchild Jaxon Nolley. He is also survived by his brother Bill (Lori) Nolley and sister Karon (Don) Cappaert, brother-in-law Bonar (Christa) Sabby and sister-in-law Pam (Maynard) Mittelsteadt along with several nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by both of his parents and his son, Greg Nolley.

A celebration of life will be planned later this Spring.

The family would like to thank the staff at UW Health East Madison Hospital and Agrace Hospice for the outstanding care received. In lieu of flowers, please send your monetary gifts to Agrace Hospice. “Death leaves a heartache no one can heal; Love leaves a memory no one can steal”.

Jim Nolley was a very knowledgeable, yet very humble veteran. Jim welcomed me into the 115 FW Logistics Readiness Squadron. Jim was a great asset to the military family. God Bless and God Speed Sir!

what our families say

Tiffany Foster went out of her way to fulfill all my requests, talked me through problems I was facing, and tried to make me feel as comfortable as possible when I was a wreck, totally crushed, and I thank her with all of my heart for that.

The professional manner of the staff made a difficult time a little easier.

Lynda R. | July 2020

Services provided for both parents were perfect, on time, and no issues. Brenda is awesome and strong!

Skyler was absolutely amazing. She was so caring and helpful through this whole process. She even went above and beyond to meet with us in DeForest and even to make a stop at our home to drop off or pick up anything needed. While it was a small gesture, it was so helpful and greatly appreciated.
