Obituaries

Isabelle F. Dressel, age 98, passed away on Thursday, December 19, 2024, surrounded by her family at home in Madison. She was born on May 18, 1926, in Madison, the daughter of Carl and Florence (Meyers) Schuchardt. Isabelle was a proud graduate of St. James Catholic School and West High School. She married Philip Dressel on October 15, 1949, at St. James Catholic Church, after which she and Phil settled in St. Paul, Minnesota. In 1957, they moved to California where Phil owned and operated a bowling center, and together they raised their family. Isabelle worked for Bank of America in Los Angeles as a technology information librarian. She retired in 1985 and shortly thereafter, she and Phil returned to Madison. During her retirement, Isabelle enjoyed many memorable travels and adventures with her family, including cruises to Alaska, the Mediterranean, Scandinavia and the Caribbean, along with countless cross-country road trips.

Isabelle’s candor, wisdom and thoughtfulness will be missed by all who knew and loved her. She was known for her unwavering devotion to her Catholic faith. Isabelle was a member of the National Catholic Society of Foresters – St. Cecilia Court #955 for which she served as secretary for many years. Phil and Isabelle’s greatest gift to their children was their model of deep faith and daily prayer.

Survivors include her four children, Catherine Dressel, Thomas Dressel, Philip (Barb) Dressel, and Mary Dressel, her sister Betty Schuchardt, all of Madison, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 47 years, Phil; sisters Phyllis Schuchardt and Florence Huffer; brothers Emmett, Paul, Carl and Albert Schuchardt; and numerous in-laws.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 30, 2024, at Our Lady of Guadalupe at St. James Catholic Church, 1128 St. James Court, Madison with Father Drew Olson officiating. The Rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m. at the church with visitation to follow until the time of the Mass. Burial will follow at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery.

The family would like to thank Dr. Jennifer Everton and the wonderful nurses and associates of Agrace Supportive and Hospice Care for the compassionate care and support they provided to Isabelle and her family.
