Madison- Harlan Albert Olson, age 64, passed away on Thursday, September 15, 2016. He was born on April 12, 1952 in Madison, WI, the son of Earl and Vivian (Johnson) Olson. Harlan worked for the State of Wisconsin as an Accountant/Auditor for 38 years. He married Mary Lawrence on October 7, 1978 at Bethel Lutheran Church in Madison. Harlan enjoyed woodworking, making stained glass artwork, traveling and spending time on the farm. He especially loved to spend time with grandchildren, Evan Truman and Ellie Lynn.

Harlan is survived by his wife Mary; his son David (Laura) Olson; grandson, Evan and granddaughter, Eleanor; mother, Vivian Olson; brother, Mark (Mary) Olson; nephew, Duane (Deborah) Olson; Mary’s sister, Marlene (Richard) Prouty; Mary’s niece and nephew’s, Laurie Gates, McKenna and Morgan, Scott (Angela) Prouty, Jacob, Gavin and Parker, and Steven (Erin) Prouty and Rileigh. He also leaves behind many relatives, friends and special neighbors.

He was preceded in death by his father, Earl Olson; his grandparents, Herman and Mae (Johnson) Johnson and Axel and Marie (Tangen) Olson.

In 2003, at the age of 51, Harlan was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease, a progressive neurological disorder that slowly took away his life. Throughout the progression of this disease, Harlan kept a positive outlook, never complained and retained his sense of humor.

According to Harlan’s wishes, no visitation or funeral will be held. Harlan will be greatly missed by those who loved him. Darwin, his sleeping buddy Granddog, will miss him, as well.

A special thank you to Mark Tellefson for all the monthly visits over the years. Mark has been like a brother to Harlan.

what our families say

Tiffany Foster went out of her way to fulfill all my requests, talked me through problems I was facing, and tried to make me feel as comfortable as possible when I was a wreck, totally crushed, and I thank her with all of my heart for that.

Skyler was absolutely amazing. She was so caring and helpful through this whole process. She even went above and beyond to meet with us in DeForest and even to make a stop at our home to drop off or pick up anything needed. While it was a small gesture, it was so helpful and greatly appreciated.
