Obituary For Glenn Joseph Van Hulle

Minneapolis, MN/Madison, WI -

Glenn Joseph Van Hulle, age 86, of Minneapolis/Madison, died on Thursday, September 19, 2024, at Oakwood-Hebron Oaks, Madison. Glenn was the youngest of seven children born at home to the late Leona (Reinhardt) and Louis Van Hulle of Oconto, Wisconsin. He went to Elm Grove, Victory and St. Joseph grade Schools and graduated from Oconto High School in 1955. Glenn spent two years in the Army, serving at various bases in the USA and Korea. He then worked on the family farm and attended the University of Wisconsin. On August 17, 1963, he married Marcia Gorman at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Madison. After graduating in 1969 with a PHD in Food Chemistry, they moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota, where Glenn joined General Mills in their Product Development Department. He was awarded nine patents over the years and retired in 1998 after 29 years of service.

Glenn had many interests and read a great deal - from the History of the USA and other Countries, to the latest breakthroughs in Biotechnology, Medical Science, and Space Exploration. He loved to hunt with his friends at their cabin in Florence and with his neighbor Don Beck. But fishing was his favorite passion. He took great pleasure in practicing catch and release; so there would be something left for future generations. He was also active in YMCA Guides for many years and had an interest in capturing family evens, regularly shooting up a lot of film, writing poetry and his memoirs.

Glenn will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Marcia; their children, Daniel (Tanya) of Ashburn, VA, Carol Ann (Kevin) of Madison, WI, and Andrew of New Berlin, WI; five grandchildren, Steven, Viktoria, Kathrine, Tessa and Kieran; sister, Mary Laverne (Omer) Jones of Madison, WI; brother, Richard (Barbara) of Oconto, WI; and also, many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Dolores Eparvier, Phyllis Murphy and Patricia Ponto; brother, Norman; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jim and Phyllis Carrier, Bill and Joan Sanford, Harold and Ruth Orwin, Robert Orwin, Phillip and Janet Roth, Janette Van Hulle, Vernon Ponto and Francis Eparvier; and grandson, Trenton Joseph Van Hulle.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 26, 2024, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 2121 Rowley Avenue, Madison. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass on Thursday at the church. Burial will follow at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery.

The family wishes to thank the Agrace Hospice nurses and the employees of Hebron Oaks for their care and support.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.

Glenn was one of my first supervisors at General Mills in the research and development department. He had a broad base of experience and knowledge in all areas of food processing and preservation. He was fun to work with, and he was a skilled mentor to younger employees like me. I have many fond memories of the work we did together. I retired 10 years after Glenn, but still consider him to be one of my best General Mills friends and mentors. If his memoirs are available, I would feel blessed to have a copy. Jerry Wilson 3649 Boone Circle North New Hope, MN 55427 Blessings and Peace to the family as you mourn his loss.

what our families say

Tiffany Foster went out of her way to fulfill all my requests, talked me through problems I was facing, and tried to make me feel as comfortable as possible when I was a wreck, totally crushed, and I thank her with all of my heart for that.

The professional manner of the staff made a difficult time a little easier.

Lynda R. | July 2020

Skyler was absolutely amazing. She was so caring and helpful through this whole process. She even went above and beyond to meet with us in DeForest and even to make a stop at our home to drop off or pick up anything needed. While it was a small gesture, it was so helpful and greatly appreciated.
