Obituary For Glenn Frederick Allen

MADISON- Glenn Frederick Allen, age 87, was blessed by the Lord and sent peacefully home on September 13, 2017. He was born in LaCrosse on April 23, 1930, to Clyde and Anna (Leibl) Allen. As a city boy he spent most of his time at the Leibl Farms out in Smith Coulee. While attending St. Thomas Aquinas High School, he worked at the A & P. Shortly after graduating, he met Mary Ellen Karashinski, and they were married on September 26, 1953.

Glenn was a Sears man, starting out in the offices before successfully becoming a credit manager for their retail stores countrywide. In 1975 Glenn, Mary and their family moved to Madison, where they managed a family business in Sun Prairie, Marcella’s Ceramics. Upon retirement from the family business in 1983, Glenn and Mary joined the Woodman’s staff on Milwaukee Street and were there for many years until Mary succumbed to a heart attack in January of 1990. She is dearly missed by all. Glenn continued to work the night shift at Woodman’s, where he met a special woman in his latter years, Ruth Murphy, who became a member of our family and was much loved. With Ruth’s passing and his retirement, Glenn spent most of his time on projects around his home and enjoyed working outside. He loved his family, friends and neighbors very much.

He is survived by his children, Deborah K. Hayes (Jack), James M. Allen (Michelle), Susan M. (Stan) Gifford, and Robert G. Allen (Karrie); 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Jeanette (Rudy) Olson; sister-in-law, Diane Allen; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dick and Marcie Karashinski; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary E. Allen; brothers, Eugene, Clyde and Donnie Allen; sister, Pearl Fisher; and special friend, Ruth Murphy.

Thank you to the staff at Oak Park Place, Dr. Mozena and Gail Gaustad RN, who understood Dad, and for allowing him to live his life as he wanted. Dr. Kamin and her wonderful staff, Unity Point Health while he was at home, and Heartland Hospice for their graciousness and compassionate care.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, September 21, 2017, at ST. PETER CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5001 N. Sherman Ave., Madison with Msgr. Charles Schluter presiding. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass at the church on Thursday. Interment will be held at Highland Memory Gardens.

what our families say

Tiffany Foster went out of her way to fulfill all my requests, talked me through problems I was facing, and tried to make me feel as comfortable as possible when I was a wreck, totally crushed, and I thank her with all of my heart for that.

The professional manner of the staff made a difficult time a little easier.

Lynda R. | July 2020

Services provided for both parents were perfect, on time, and no issues. Brenda is awesome and strong!

Skyler was absolutely amazing. She was so caring and helpful through this whole process. She even went above and beyond to meet with us in DeForest and even to make a stop at our home to drop off or pick up anything needed. While it was a small gesture, it was so helpful and greatly appreciated.
