Obituary For Giuseppina "Josie" Fiorello (nee Cappello)

Giuseppina "Josie" Fiorello (née Cappello)
August 6, 1939 – March 9, 2025

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Giuseppina "Josie" Fiorello, a beloved wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. Josie passed away on Sunday, March 9, 2025, at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Salaparuta, Sicily, on August 6, 1939, Josie was the eldest of five sisters—Monica, Sara, Calogera, and Rosalia. She was the cherished daughter of Francesco Cappello and Rosalia Cappello (nee Oliveri). At 14, she immigrated to the United States, embracing a new life while carrying the rich traditions of her Sicilian heritage.

In 1959, she married Jack Fiorello, and together, they built a warm and welcoming home. Josie was a devoted mother to Sam and Virginia; a proud grandmother to Zach and Meghan Kersten, Julian, Maxwell, and Audrey Fiorello; and a loving great-grandmother to Sophia, Madelyn Josephine, and Jack.

A homemaker and caregiver at heart, Josie ran a small childcare center from her home, where she nurtured and shaped the lives of many children. She was known for her kindness, quiet strength, and boundless love. Josie’s kitchen was always full of delicious aromas, and those lucky enough to taste her Sicilian Christmas cookies and cannoli knew they had eaten something special.

Her warm hugs could brighten the darkest of days, and her presence made the world feel softer and more welcoming. She leaves behind a legacy of love, family, and tradition. While we mourn her loss, we find comfort in knowing that her memory will remain a blessing to all who knew her.

A memorial service to honor and celebrate Josie’s life will be held at 11:00 am. on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at Ryan Funeral Home, 5701 Odana Road, Madison. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the Children's Defense Fund (childrensdefense.org), as a reflection of the care she gave throughout her life.

Josie’s love was immeasurable, and though she is no longer with us, her spirit will forever live on in those she touched.

what our families say

Tiffany Foster went out of her way to fulfill all my requests, talked me through problems I was facing, and tried to make me feel as comfortable as possible when I was a wreck, totally crushed, and I thank her with all of my heart for that.

The professional manner of the staff made a difficult time a little easier.

Lynda R. | July 2020

Skyler was absolutely amazing. She was so caring and helpful through this whole process. She even went above and beyond to meet with us in DeForest and even to make a stop at our home to drop off or pick up anything needed. While it was a small gesture, it was so helpful and greatly appreciated.
