Obituary For G. Steven “Steve” Beavers
G. Steven “Steve” Beavers, age 62, passed away on Wednesday, August 3, 2022. Steve was born in Los Angeles, CA on August 15, 1959. He graduated from University High School in 1977. After graduating, he spent a year at U C Santa Cruz where he “had WAY too much fun!” In 1978 he transferred to Northwestern University, Evanston, IL where he hunkered down and studied speech, dance, and theater. He graduated in 1982.
He remained in Evanston after graduation. That is where he met his former wife and lifelong best friend, Elizabeth Faesi Beavers “Beth.” They were married in Los Vegas, NV in January 1988. Steve juggled acting and bartending, receiving rave reviews for both! Performances could be seen from Schuba’s Tavern on Southport in Chicago to The Gas Light Lounge at the Palmer House on State Street.
Steve and Beth settled in Madison, WI when they decided to begin having a family. Steve was hired by the Madison Police Dept. in 1991. There he achieved the rank of sergeant. He impacted many lives thereby sharing his personal experience with Mental Health struggles; he was a compassionate soul. Collaboratively, he helped to develop specific training on trauma, stress, and depression for officers in many departments. He served on the MPPOA union board and was a part of the Hostage Negotiation Team. He retired in 2012. Then he became the Volunteer Coordinator for the AIDS Network in Madison.
The most important people in Steve’s life were his sons, Jacob Andrew Beavers “Jake” (Madison, WI) and Noah Christopher Beavers (Los Angeles, CA.) Pride in his sons could be read on his face! Favorite family moments included Steve reading aloud to the whole family and acting out all the characters, especially the Harry Potter series! The boys would look forward to the Union Picnic at Olin Park and Conference at the Kalahari each year.
Karen Beavers (Pasadena, CA) is Steve’s only remaining relative. They shared a close relationship by discussing films, politics, and art in general regularly. His parents Beverly Cannon and Leonard Beavers, as well as his older brother, Christopher Beavers “Chris” preceded him in death. Steve also leaves behind Jason Harwood (Madison,) his loving partner of many years.
Besides following film, politics, and literature, Steve loved to watch cooking shows and then prepare memorable meals for friends and family alike. It was one of the ways he shared his love.
Steve loved many dogs in his life, most recently Nala, Mash, Tanner, and Rosie. He was a real dog person! One of his favorite roles was playing Snoopy! His sparkly personality will be missed by many, but we will all remember his BIG smile, warm hugs, and contagious laugh.
“Now cracks a noble heart. Good night sweet prince, And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.” William Shakespeare, Hamlet
