Obituary For Edward Gay Mason Jr.

Madison - Edward Gay Mason Jr. passed away peacefully on May 18, 2024 at Agrace Hospice.

Edward was born in Jacksonville, FL on July 30, 1941, the son of US Navy Captain Edward Gay Mason and Ruth Warner Mason. Edward was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife, Cynthia Koschmann, sister and brother-in-law Becky and Gary Vaughn, younger brother, John, and his beloved cat, Leona.

Ed and Cynthia were united in marriage on May 10, 1991 in Madison after he proposed to her in Santiago de Compostela, Galicia, Spain. Edward and Cynthia rejoiced in Madison's diverse learning opportunities and activities. Together theirs was a lifetime of sailing, canoeing, camping (sometimes with the three horses they trained) and traveling abroad. Salsa dancing at the convention center and Cajun Two Step dancing at the Harmony Bar were favorite pastimes. Ed was an avid and voracious reader. His home is filled with an eclectic array of books.

Ed was a state Research Analyst for 28 years, retrieving client eligibility and budget data from large mainframe databases. Previously, Edward served two years in the US Navy and was a state bilingual outreach worker. Ed often remarked on the stimulation and cooperation of fellow state workers, and the rewards of having interesting neighbors.

Per Edward's request, there will be cremation with no funeral or memorial service. Some who knew him might care to donate to Madison's WORT radio station, WIsconsin Public Television or Madison Public Library.

Condolences

It is with deep regret that I have learned- quite by accident- of my Brother Edward's passing. I am sorry for our estrangement and that we never had a chance to reconcile before his death. I regret that Edward's niece, Julia and nephew, Jonathan, never had the opportunity to know him. I will always cherish the memory of the summers we spent together along the Connecticut shore at our Grand mother's house in Essex Connecticut. John Mason

I wish to extend my sympathy to Ed's wife and family As one of those state workers I enjoyed working with Ed at Social Services for some years. Ed was an interesting man who had his own way of showing he cared to his friends and coworkers. Ellen Mc Dermott

what our families say

Tiffany Foster went out of her way to fulfill all my requests, talked me through problems I was facing, and tried to make me feel as comfortable as possible when I was a wreck, totally crushed, and I thank her with all of my heart for that.

The professional manner of the staff made a difficult time a little easier.

Lynda R. | July 2020

Services provided for both parents were perfect, on time, and no issues. Brenda is awesome and strong!

Skyler was absolutely amazing. She was so caring and helpful through this whole process. She even went above and beyond to meet with us in DeForest and even to make a stop at our home to drop off or pick up anything needed. While it was a small gesture, it was so helpful and greatly appreciated.
