Obituary For Doris A. Allen

MADISON- Doris A. Allen, age 89 of Madison, passed away on December 18, 2017, at Serenity Homes, DeForest, Wisconsin. Doris was born on January 15, 1928, in Crystal Lake Township, Wisconsin, to Edward and Henrietta (Wedderkop) Krueger. Moving to Portage, Wisconsin, she graduated from Portage High School in 1946. She was employed by F.W. Woolworth and Portage Hosiery of Portage. After her marriage to Stanley A. Allen of Portage on April 25, 1953, they moved to Madison where she resided until her death. She was employed by Gisholts and Oscar Mayer and Co. She enjoyed the 36 years she worked at Oscar Mayer. She belonged to St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church and was also a member of the Oscarettes. Doris enjoyed her volunteering time at READI and at the House of Thrift where she worked for 14 years. She especially enjoyed all the trips she and her husband, Stan, took to Europe, Nassau, Alaska, Aruba, Arizona, and Hawaii. Hawaii was her favorite place which she visited frequently. Her favorite sport in the summertime to watch was baseball at Warner Park. Doris did enjoy bowling and on April 23, 1977, she converted the big four (4-6, 7-10) at the WIBC tournament in Milwaukee. That was a rare feat for her. On April 25, 2017, she and Stan celebrated their 64 year anniversary.

Doris is survived by her husband, Stanley; a daughter, Linda Allen (George Patefield) of Portage, Wisconsin; a son, Tom (Linda) James; sister-in-law, Esther Miller; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death was her father, Edward Krueger; her mother, Henrietta and step-father, Robert Miller; her step-sister, Patricia Miller; and step-brother, Bob Miller.

In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated to St. Paul Lutheran Church or Heartland Hospice.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, December 26, 2017, at ST. PAUL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 2126 N. Sherman Ave., Madison, with the Rev. Gerry Kuhnke presiding. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Tuesday. Burial will be held at Shanks Cemetery in Caledonia Township.

There’s an open gate at the end of the road.

Through which each must go alone-

And there is a light we cannot see-

Where the Father claims his own.

Beyond the gate our loved one

Finds happiness and rest;

And there is comfort in the thought

That a loving God knows best.

what our families say

Tiffany Foster went out of her way to fulfill all my requests, talked me through problems I was facing, and tried to make me feel as comfortable as possible when I was a wreck, totally crushed, and I thank her with all of my heart for that.

Skyler was absolutely amazing. She was so caring and helpful through this whole process. She even went above and beyond to meet with us in DeForest and even to make a stop at our home to drop off or pick up anything needed. While it was a small gesture, it was so helpful and greatly appreciated.
