Green Bay/Madison - Dennis Domack passed away peacefully at Aurora BayCare Hospital in Green Bay on November 20, 2023. He was born on January 23, 1940 to Julian and Frances (Gorski) Domack in Marshfield, Wisconsin, and married Ruth Phillips on June 19, 1971. Dennis is survived by sons Paul (Jennifer), Brian (Alicia), and Tim (Caroline), grandsons Andrew, Jacob and Phillip, and granddaughters Addison and Margaret. Dennis was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth, his parents, brother Kenneth, sister-in-law Lisa Domack, and brother-in-law Lee Bauman.

After serving as a 1st Lieutenant in the Wisconsin Army National Guard, Dennis enjoyed a successful career as a Professor with the University of Wisconsin Extension and earned the title of Professor Emeritus by the UW Board of Regents upon his retirement. He served as the Community Development Specialist in St. Croix County from 1974-1976 and Dane County from 1976-1996. Additionally, Dennis proudly served on several boards including the Community Development Society, Edgewood High School Board of Trustees, Madison Area Crime Stoppers, Dane County Boys and Girls Club, and Badger State Games. Our Lady Queen of Peace played an important role in Dennis’s life where he enjoyed being lector and commentator.

Dennis was always quick with a pun and spent many nights laughing with friends and neighbors at his house, which he often referred to as Cheers, in Fitchburg. His Christmas decorations lit the entire block, and he proudly mowed his manicured lawn several times a week. His smile and humor were contagious, he loved his family, and he will be dearly missed.

In addition to his sons and grandchildren, Dennis is survived by his sister-in-law Karen Domack, brothers Tom (Susie) Domack, John (Vicki) Domack, Kevin (Mary) Domack, sisters Kathy Bauman and Marilyn (Perry) Tormey, and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Our Lady Queen of Peace School Endowment or Edgewood High School.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, December 4th, 2023, at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 401 S. Owen Drive, Madison. A visitation will be held at the church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. Entombment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park and there will be a brief committal service at 3:00 p.m.

Denny was just the NICEST and most welcoming, kind, and lovely man from the first moment we met. Brian, Paul, and Tim: I have the warmest and kindest memories of your father, who made us feel like he had known us for years from the first time we met. I'll forever smile thinking of him, because he made us feel included and like we were part of the squad. Sending you all prayers, comfort and warmth as you navigate these waters.

Dear Tim, Brian, Paul and family, Dennis was such an amazing individual that we had a personal connection with. He was loved, appreciated and will truly be missed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of you in this time of loss. Thankfully Denny has been reunited with Ruth in a better place. We love you all. God Bless, Ryan Domack and family Hampstead, NC

Dennis was a wonderful man. First knew him as a Catholic priest recording religious messages for radio station WISM in Madison, WI. Later, he left the priesthood and married, had kids, and became a great professor at the UW-Madison Extension. Really liked Dennis and am praying to God for his family. May God bless all of them.

I was so sad to learn Denny passed. I so fondly remember working with him in 1977 City of Middleton downtown project. He was literally one of a kind. One thing I learned, he referred to a state colleague as a ROAD warrior. I told Denny never heard of that, what does that mean. "Retired on Active Duty" by the way it was true. RIP Denny! Dan Ramsey, former Mayor.

Dennis, may the lord give you eternal rest in the embrace of Ruth, Fran, Jules Ken and all the company of heaven. You are remembered with nothing but kind thoughts always in your perpetual smile and compassion for others. I can not hear Sgt Pepper's without thinking about you and sitting with your brother John in the Buick listening to it on 8 Track tape, endless loop. You and your entire family are forever in our hearts and minds -- God bless and keep you.

I'm so sorry for your loss. It was great memories going over to the house and just spending time. He always had a smile on his face and brought joy to everyone. He was just an absolute joy to be around. I will keep you all in my prayers. God Bless and my sincere condolences.

Paul, Brian, Tim, and families - so very sorry for your loss. Your dad was one special guy. He certainly could always make us laugh with his great sense of humor. We had such fun with him and your mom on our trip to Rio de Janeiro in 1988. When we moved to Fitchburg in 1986, right next-door to the Dmack family, your dad welcomed us with open arms. What a great neighbor! We will miss him. Janet and Gary Aide

Thoughts and prayers going out to the family of Dennis. The last time we talked to him is when he was a priest at St. Bernard's parish in Madison and married us on January 6th 1968 in the gym of all places because Msgr. Thome was on the remodeling mode at that time. R.I.P. Dennis.

My Condolences go to Dennis Domack's Family for their Loss. I first met Dennis when he was a priest at St. James Catholic Church. He married My husband and I on August 1, 1970. We teased him at a picnic we were both at, asking if we were still married, because he was no longer a priest. We all laughed and he said Yes we were married because he was a priest at that time. R.I.H.P. Dennis Domack

what our families say

Tiffany Foster went out of her way to fulfill all my requests, talked me through problems I was facing, and tried to make me feel as comfortable as possible when I was a wreck, totally crushed, and I thank her with all of my heart for that.

James S. | July 2020

The professional manner of the staff made a difficult time a little easier.

Lynda R. | July 2020

Services provided for both parents were perfect, on time, and no issues. Brenda is awesome and strong!

Michael M. | July 2020

Skyler was absolutely amazing. She was so caring and helpful through this whole process. She even went above and beyond to meet with us in DeForest and even to make a stop at our home to drop off or pick up anything needed. While it was a small gesture, it was so helpful and greatly appreciated.
