Obituary For David L. Field

Mount Horeb/Verona - David L. Field, age 84, passed away on Thursday, October 19 of natural causes. He was born on July 28, 1939, in Madison, the son of Wallace and Florence (Topper) Field. The family farmed and David was active in the 4-H and FFA groups all throughout his school years. He graduated from Mount Horeb High School in 1957. Shortly after graduation, he joined the US Army Reserves and that is when he was introduced to the love of his life, Donna Funseth. They corresponded with letters and when he returned home, he called her and asked her on a date. He bought a brand new 1958 Chevrolet especially for the date and the rest was history. They married on April 18, 1959 at the Primrose Lutheran Church in Primrose Township, WI. They started creating their family and settled in Mount Horeb, where David, with the help of his many friends, built the family a new home in 1968. He worked for the Wisconsin Department of Transportation for 39 years, retiring in 1998. He took part-time jobs for the next few years as a consultant, inspecting roads and bridges. They remained in Mount Horeb for the rest of their lives, but wanting to escape winters, they bought a “winter” home in Mesa, AZ, in 2002 to enjoy warmer climates year-round. He was an active member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Mount Horeb and had deep faith. David was quite the athlete all throughout his life. In the summers he loved playing fast pitch and then slow pitch as he aged a bit. Later in life, he picked up golf and became quite good at it. If he wasn’t on the golf course in the summer, he was helping his nephew and family, John and Katie Field, rake, and bale hay. He loved his tractor time! In the winters before heading to his AZ home, he was a great bowler and enjoyed deer camp/hunting with his buddies in Endeavor, WI. He loved listening to music, singing along to most songs. He was an avid card player and was the captain of his euchre team, taking first place numerous years. David displayed what a positive, strong, and determined man he was, overcoming many illnesses and hardships throughout his life, with much perseverance and little complain.

David is survived by his children, Daniel Field, Debra (Mark Ryser) Segebrecht, and Diane Field; grandchildren Nicholas Angie) Segebrecht, Ashley (Jacob) Athey, and Jessica Hefty; great granddaughters Hayden and Berkley Segebrecht, Lennon and Willa Athey, and great grandson Zion Hefty; Sisters Dawn (Paul) Kellesvig and Donna (Paul) Miller; Brother Donald (Cathie) Field; Sisters in Law Carol Connaughton Conant, Jean Duerst Tami, Marlene Funseth, and Judy Jacobson; many cousins, nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and tons of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Donna Field; his son, Dean Field; his granddaughter, Samantha Mueller; his son-in-law, Steve Segebrecht; a brother, James Conant; and special friend, Janice Pittz.

The family would also like to recognize the following: Dad‘s second family, the Pittz’s, from Mineral Point who all treated him as their own. His caring, wonderful, and supportive caregiver, Ryan Davis, wife Ashley, and daughter Samantha. His loving niece, Lori Johnson, and husband, Monte, in Mesa, AZ, for taking care of him when he fell ill in December, 2022 until he was allowed to fly back home to WI in March, 2023. All of his wonderful AZ “family”, especially Rod & Diane Edminster and Jan Ritenour with whom he spent the last 21+ years in the winter as a Snowbird playing cards, golfing, shuffleboard, pool time (sun bathing and playing his handheld games), casino, bingo, and Friday fish fry’s. His fun loving and competitive Norsk Golf Club buddies, young and old, guys and gals. His WI DOT breakfast club guys. His Poker, Solo, and Euchre card playing friends. His friends, and amazing staff, at Noel Manor where he enjoyed living. The Verona Police & EMS for being so compassionate.

A Private Family Service will be held at Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mount Horeb. David will be laid to rest at Union Cemetery in Mount Horeb. A Celebration of Life will be held in David’s honor on Sunday, October 29, 2023 from 2:00pm to 6:00pm at the 5th Quarter Bar and Grill, 161 Horizon Drive, Verona. what our families say

Tiffany Foster went out of her way to fulfill all my requests, talked me through problems I was facing, and tried to make me feel as comfortable as possible when I was a wreck, totally crushed, and I thank her with all of my heart for that.

The professional manner of the staff made a difficult time a little easier.

Lynda R. | July 2020

Michael M. | July 2020

Skyler was absolutely amazing. She was so caring and helpful through this whole process. She even went above and beyond to meet with us in DeForest and even to make a stop at our home to drop off or pick up anything needed. While it was a small gesture, it was so helpful and greatly appreciated.
