Obituaries

David Henry Hensen, age 87, passed away on June 3, 2024, at Agrace Hospice in Fitchburg, surrounded by his family. He was born on July 21, 1936, in the town of Westport, Wisconsin, the eldest of nine children born to Clemence and Marian (Acker) Hensen. Dave grew up in Sun Prairie and helped run the family farm. He served in the Air National Guard. Dave spent several years working for Hanley Implement, where he apprenticed in maintaining and repairing refrigeration units, and then started and operated his own business, Hensen Refrigeration, for over twenty years. In 2001 he married his wife Carol and resided with her in the village of Windsor where he "retired" as the Parkside Village handyman.

Dave enjoyed varied hobbies including photography and developing photos in his home dark room, operating a ham radio, piloting his Cessna, and model railroading with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife Carol of DeForest; children Kathryn Freidel of Madison; Michael Joseph Hensen (Andrea Drewinko) of Cambridge, MA; Colleen (Dave) Mueller of Stevens Point; Timothy Hensen (Julie Govan) of Charlottesville, VA; their mother; siblings Ronald of Merrimac, Kenneth (Barbara) of Fredericksburg, VA; Eugene (Alice) of Naples, FL; Lois (Michael) Laufenberg of Waunakee; Leon (Joyce) of Pewaukee; Leta of Madison; Rick (Tracey) of Fox Lake; and Constance (Joseph) Scott of Apple Valley, MN; grandchildren Sarah, Alexandria, Ellen, Chelsea, Ariella, Mary, Caroline, Charlie and Tommy; great-grandchildren Finley, Max, Bowen and Dagney.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents Clem and Marian, his infant son Michael David, and a sister-in-law, Patty Hensen.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Albert the Great Catholic Church, 2420 St. Albert the Great Drive, Sun Prairie, on June 12, 2024, at 11:00am. Visitation will be at 9:30am. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the American Heart Association or the American Lung Association. The family would like to thank Agrace Hospice Care for their care and support during David's last days.
