Obituary For Dale Baldwin

It is with profound sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Dale Baldwin of Windsor, Wisconsin, on August 8, 2020, at the age of 67.

Dale is survived by his wife of 34 years, Sherri (Buck) Baldwin; daughter, Kaitlin (Joshua) Newman of Sun Prairie, WI; son, Spencer Baldwin of Madison, WI; mother, Wilma Baldwin of Houghton, MI; brother, Steven (Jane) Baldwin of Angola, IN; sister, Jennifer (Brian) Meulemans of Green Bay, WI; along with three nieces and two nephews. Dale was preceded in death by his father, Keith Baldwin, and his brother David.

Dale received his Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Physics and minors in Biology, Chemistry, and Mathematics from Michigan Technological University in Houghton, MI. After several years of working for various engineering corporations, Dale realized his dream of starting his own company, CFD Systems. Dale produced an exceptional range of specialty designs, including a hydraulic wrench used in assembling the NASA space shuttle booster rocket housing, and a high power rotary transformer that controlled air brakes on power generation windmills. Eventually, his product designs for a valve positioning system, and a fluid level gauge for fire engines became his primary products. Virtually every manufacturer of fire trucks in the US was using his product design. Dale eventually sold his business to spend more time with his family.

Dale was a lifelong problem-solver whose philosophy was that everything is "figure-out-able." He was always willing to help Sherri with her gardening endeavors, which twice became a part of the Olbrich Garden Walk. Education was of the utmost importance to Dale both personally and for his children. He wanted his children to retain their natural curiosity and excitement for learning new ideas and seeing new places. He took his daughter Katie on several memorable father- daughter trips. Their first trip was to Ireland when she was 8, followed later by ski trips to Colorado, and also to a dude ranch. Dale said of the experience on the ranch that he would have paid extra to run alongside the horse to avoid having to ride on it. Dale took his son Spencer on father-son camping trips, skiing trip out to Utah, and hiking in Glacier National Park, where they encountered a grizzly. Eventually, Dale and Spencer even explored Nicaragua together.

Dale had an adventurous spirit that emerged during his teenage years in Michigan's Upper Pennisula. Evidence of that was building and flying his very own hang-glider off the Mont Ripley ski hill. Dale also grew up enjoying sailing, and downhill ski racing. As an adult, he enjoyed international travel and claimed that Zermatt, Switzerland was his favorite place on the planet. Later in life, his favorite journeys involved road trips on his motorcycle with a few good friends.

Dale always enjoyed a good laugh and was a very entertaining storyteller. Nothing gave Dale more pleasure though than seeing his family succeed in their various endeavors. He was always available to offer his hard-earned wisdom when it was needed. Dale's family and relatives will all miss him very much.

A Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a later date.

Memorial donations may be directed to the Autoimmune Encephalitis Alliance at aealliance.org.

what our families say

Tiffany Foster went out of her way to fulfill all my requests, talked me through problems I was facing, and tried to make me feel as comfortable as possible when I was a wreck, totally crushed, and I thank her with all of my heart for that.

Skyler was absolutely amazing. She was so caring and helpful through this whole process. She even went above and beyond to meet with us in DeForest and even to make a stop at our home to drop off or pick up anything needed. While it was a small gesture, it was so helpful and greatly appreciated.
