Obituaries

Cottage Grove- Bonnie Jean Shields, age 82, passed away on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at her home in Cottage Grove, Wis. She was born on September 25, 1935 in Madison, Wis., daughter of Leonard and Marian Lyons. Bonnie married Earl Albert Shields on December 4, 1953 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Madison, Wis. Earl preceded Bonnie in death on June 17, 1982. In 1985 she met her companion, Francis (Red) Buol. Red preceded Bonnie in death on January 2, 2009.

Bonnie was a homemaker and spent her life raising seven children. She is survived by two sons, Brian (Cindy) Shields of DeForest and Kendall (Nancy) Shields of Huntington, WV and five daughters, Ricki (Phil) Hoefer of Mount Pleasant, SC, Carole Ruiz de Chavez of Fitchburg, Lori (Don) Dibbert of Joplin, MO, Kelly (Curt) Nelson of Madison and Kerri (Larry) Hewitt of Deerfield. Fourteen grandchildren; Julie, Christina, Nicole, Margaret, Pamela, Nathaniel, Brian, Michael, Morgan, Carlos, Abby, Clayton, Cody and Emily. Sixteen great-grandchildren; Justin, Kristin, Gavin, Sam, Aleisha, Lilly, Jessica, Issac, Jimmy, Aaliyah, Aiden, Madison, Taryn, Audrey, Liam and Maysen; and one great-great-grandchild, Aurora.

Bonnie enjoyed reading, needlepoint, the friendships she developed at Taylor Ridge and spending time with her numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved visiting Lake Mason and was a dedicated member of VFW Post 7591, Cootie.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her brothers, Richard and Kenneth Lyons, one sister, Charlene Lyons, and her son-in-law, Fernando Ruiz de Chavez.

The family is planning a celebration of life at a later date.
