Obituary For Bo Vong

Bo Vong, age 89, passed away on December 1, 2024 in DeForest, WI. He was born on February 6, 1935 in Cambodia, where he lived with his parents and two brothers. In Cambodia, he was a journalist and a high-ranking Buddhist Monk. He left the monastery in 1967 and married Yoeun Siv; together they had eight children. During the 1970’s he was injured twice as he joined military forces to help end the brutal Pol Pot regime. In 1983, Bo, Yoeun, and four of their children came to the United States with the sponsorship of the Lodi Church.

Bo was a member of the Cambodian Buddhist Society and multiple neighborhood associations. Throughout his life, he regularly volunteered his time in his community. He was a cherished member of his community, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, strength, and generosity. His many interests included meditation and gardening, but he especially loved music. Bo will be remembered for his kind heart and willingness to help others.

Above all, Bo was devoted to his family. He was an inspiration and role model to his children and wanted the best for his family. He promoted the importance of education and took pride in the accomplishments of his children.

Bo was charming, cared for others, and will be dearly missed. He will be remembered as a person who cared deeply for his family and positively touched the lives of all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Yoeun, and son, Thy Vong. Bo is survived by his children Kamsath Vong (Stacie McGill), Chantha Griffiths, and Chanthou Vong (Nick Olin); grandchildren, Addison Vong, Victoria Phon, Madison Phon, Maxwell Phon, Macy Olin, and one on the way; and brothers in Cambodia, Sok Vong and San Vong.

The family would like to extend a thank you to the staff of Koselig House, Agrace Hospice, and to the monks of the Cambodian Buddhist Society.

A service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, December 6, 2024 at Ryan Funeral Home, 2418 N. Sherman Ave., Madison, WI.

what our families say

Tiffany Foster went out of her way to fulfill all my requests, talked me through problems I was facing, and tried to make me feel as comfortable as possible when I was a wreck, totally crushed, and I thank her with all of my heart for that.

James S. | July 2020

The professional manner of the staff made a difficult time a little easier.

Lynda R. | July 2020

Services provided for both parents were perfect, on time, and no issues. Brenda is awesome and strong!

Michael M. | July 2020

Skyler was absolutely amazing. She was so caring and helpful through this whole process. She even went above and beyond to meet with us in DeForest and even to make a stop at our home to drop off or pick up anything needed. While it was a small gesture, it was so helpful and greatly appreciated.
