Obituary For Beverly A. "Bev" Porter

Madison-

Beverly A. “Bev” Porter, age 83, passed away on Friday, January 3, 2025. She was born on December 28, 1941, in Madison, the daughter of Ernest S. and Viola (West) Johnson. Bev graduated from Madison East High School in 1960, where she met her beloved husband, Charles W. “Chuck” Porter, Sr., at a senior party that year. They were married on January 12, 1963. Together they raised two sons. Bev retired from American Family Insurance after many years of service.

Bev enjoyed her morning coffee clutch with her dear friends at McDonald’s. She also cherished her Tuesday lunches with her nieces and nephews. Bev had many yearly traditions that she enjoyed including trips to the apple orchard and stopping for cheese, rides on the Merrimac Ferry and attending local lutefisk dinners. Most of all, her grandchildren were her life. Spending time with her 4 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren brought her the greatest joy.

Bev is survived by her two sons, Charles (Cheryl), and Dennis (Kathy); grandsons, Vaughn (Nicole Schmitgen), Christian (Kaitlin), Kyle and Chase Porter; 2 great-grandsons, Silas and James Porter and one great-grandchild on the way; brother, Ernest “Sonny” Johnson; sister, Betty (Joe) Gervasi; her beloved dog, Hunter and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Porter, Sr.; her parents; siblings, Marge (Ed) Skolaski, Dianne (Jerry) McIntyre and Lynda Hollis; and sister-in-law, Shirley Johnson.

A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held from 4-6 p.m. on Thursday, January 9, 2024, at Ryan Funeral Home, 2418 N. Sherman Avenue. Private family burial will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park.

Dennis and Chuck, we remember your mom fondly, knowing her as we grew up across the street from one another. She was always gracious and loving towards everyone. We are sorry for your loss and send our sympathies and prayers. Love Nancy and Jeff Lyons and Juanita Webb.

I always enjoyed seeing Aunt Bev! She was always sweet to me and I liked that! I am so glad I got to go out to lunch with her and others a few months ago! She is now with our Lord and her family who have passed. Love and memories are in my heart!!

I'm so sorry. I know it's hard to find comfort right now. You know I was always close with your parents and loved them both deeply. Over the past few years, spending time with your mom was always a pleasure. She had a sharp wit and a wonderful sense of humor. She loved you all fiercely—she was so proud of her sons, daughter-in-laws, grandsons and great-grandsons! She always spoke highly of you and was so proud of your accomplishments. She was really looking forward to Vaughn and Nicole's wedding and the birth of great-grand baby number 3. (She was sure it's a boy) I love you all very much. Julia Killian

what our families say

Tiffany Foster went out of her way to fulfill all my requests, talked me through problems I was facing, and tried to make me feel as comfortable as possible when I was a wreck, totally crushed, and I thank her with all of my heart for that.

The professional manner of the staff made a difficult time a little easier.

Lynda R. | July 2020

Services provided for both parents were perfect, on time, and no issues. Brenda is awesome and strong!

Skyler was absolutely amazing. She was so caring and helpful through this whole process. She even went above and beyond to meet with us in DeForest and even to make a stop at our home to drop off or pick up anything needed. While it was a small gesture, it was so helpful and greatly appreciated.
