Obituary For Betty Fuller

Betty Fuller of DeForest passed away on June 16th, 2024, at the age of 88. She was born on April 20, 1935, in Rockfield, Wisconsin to Elsa (Dhein) and Herb Thate. She married the boy just down the street, Gerald (Jerry) Fuller on June 22, 1957, at Christ Church in Dheinsville. She and Jerry had three sons. In 1968, the family moved to DeForest where Betty earned her teaching degree, attending the University of Wisconsin during the height of the Vietnam war protests.

Betty taught home economics at DeForest High School for many years. During her summers off, she enjoyed spending time with her family at their cabin in Manitowish Waters. In retirement, she was an active volunteer for many organizations, including EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association), the DeForest food pantry, Wisconsin public television/radio and the Overture Center for the Arts.

She enjoyed playing cards, especially Sheepshead, both with family and at lunch with fellow DHS teachers. She was a longtime member of the Friendship Force of Wisconsin, with which she and Jerry traveled worldwide.

Betty is survived by sons Randy and Doug (Stacey); nieces and nephews; family and friends and many former students. She was preceded in death by her parents; son Brian; sister Shirley; and husband of 65 years, Jerry.

No funeral service is planned. Per her request, Betty’s ashes will be laid to rest at the Dheinsville Cemetery, Germantown, WI. A private burial for both her and Jerry’s ashes will take place later this summer

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Germantown Historical Society or Agrace Hospice.

I absolutely loved having Betty for a home economics teacher! She loved her students! She was so patient and kind. (Especially with sqirrelly boys during cooking labs) I also enjoyed seeing one of my favorite teachers at The Windsor UCC church. Betty was always curious about what and how your were doing after high school, and would take time to visit with former students. Such a wonderful mom, teacher and wife! Prayers of love and peace for your family

I have thought of Betty often and have been so grateful to her for encouraging me to go to college after I became a teen mom in 1991. She helped me apply. I had never planned to go to college. My parents expected me to work out of HS. She changed the trajectory of my life and I am forever grateful. I graduated. I am successful. It is only because of her.

Betty was a wonderful teacher. Her and Jerry went above and beyond to help everyone in need. She brought me schoolwork when I was on bedrest. She went above and beyond, like a second Mom to me and my son Matthew. Deepest sympathy to her family. May she rest on peace 🙏🕊. Jenny Broberg

what our families say

Tiffany Foster went out of her way to fulfill all my requests, talked me through problems I was facing, and tried to make me feel as comfortable as possible when I was a wreck, totally crushed, and I thank her with all of my heart for that.

Skyler was absolutely amazing. She was so caring and helpful through this whole process. She even went above and beyond to meet with us in DeForest and even to make a stop at our home to drop off or pick up anything needed. While it was a small gesture, it was so helpful and greatly appreciated.
