I have known Bernie and Nancy for over 30 years. Bernie was such an inspiration and positive mentor to me as I worked in numerous management positions with Alliant Energy and with that came an enormous friendship that I will always cherish. Bernie was so positive, cheerful and kindhearted no matter what the situation. In my heart Bernie will be missed but definitely never forgotten.

Butch was a grade school classmate of mine at The Immaculate Conception school in Boscobel, WI. I believe we had 16 in our class. Next we moved on to BHS for High School. He was a great friend and will be dearly missed.

Our sincere condolences to everyone that was a part of Bernie's life. We didn't know Bernie but from all the comments we have read he was a wonderful person and truly loved. He touched so many lives and will be thought of often. Please know that so many people share your grief with you and will help you through this difficult time. Something that we have personally experienced to be of great comfort are the thoughts expressed in the Bible at John 5:28 "all those in the memorial tombs will hear his (Jesus) voice and come out ". May God Jehovah comfort you during this sad time in your life.

There are no words to express the ache in our hearts. We've been friends for 50+ years and loved every time we could get together. We laid sod together, we spent family weekends together, we loved eating out together and loved Nancy and Bernie. Bernie was one of the nicest, kindest and funniest people that God put on this earth. So sad to hear the news of Bernie's passing. Bernie was the terrific Dad of our terrific son-in-law who married our daughter Amy on June 14, 2003. On that big day, Bernie chartered a modern, full-size air-conditioned bus to transport the wedding guests to and from the hotel, church, and reception hall. Knowing that alcohol would be consumed, Bernie (and Nancy) just wanted the guests to be safe. That tells you how kind and caring and generous Bernie was! He was a soft-spoken but always upbeat guy, always smiling, and always saying something to keep you laughing and in a good mood. He was a fun guy that you wanted to hang out with! The many miles between Wisconsin, Virginia, and Rhode Island didn't let us see Bernie and Nancy often, but when we did get together, what a good time it was. Those memories will comfort us. And no doubt, when Bernie walked into Heaven through the Pearly Gates, he surely said something witty and funny that put a big grin on St. Peter's face. Heaven is made even better with Bernie there! Stan and I extend our sympathy towards Nancy and Bernies friends and family. He was always such a pleasant guy to share the elevator with or chat with at condo events. A good neighbor.

Just wanted to say Bernie was a kind, good person and one of my favorite people to work for at WP&L. Saw him just this last fall at a UW fb tailgate and had a great chat and it was wonderful to see him. Fond memories all. May your memories of a great man give you peace and comfort in the days ahead.
